About The Position

The Kentucky State Police Information Officer III develops news releases, agency talking points, digital media content, scripts, and official agency certificates. The position works with the Public Affairs Branch to disseminate timely information to the public and keep media partners informed about upcoming events. It plans, develops, and coordinates communications programs involving media, public affairs, and publications to promote the agency’s mission.

The role may involve extensive contact with the public. The position is based at 919 Versailles Road in Frankfort, Kentucky.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from a college or university, or qualifying experience or military experience substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
• Three years of experience in journalism, public relations, or experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this job title series.
• Proficient verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Researches and writes Kentucky State Police press releases, talking points, articles, and scripts.
• Writes, designs, edits, and produces official agency newsletter articles, internet and intranet postings, award programs, and publications.
• Provides digital photography at news conferences, media events, and agency programs to supplement agency news releases.
• Assists with coordinating special events, press conferences, awards and promotional ceremonies, and cadet class graduations.
• Conducts targeted media dissemination and tracks statewide market penetration.
• Prepares monthly summaries of written media coverage for dissemination.
• Assists with the digital media marketing program and serves on the social media team.
• Assists staff and other branches with special projects.
• Organizes and maintains files and historical photographs of agency personnel and operations.
