About The Position

This position is for an Information Literacy Specialist at Brooklands Elementary School within Rochester Community Schools for the 2026-27 school year. The role focuses on implementing the District Information Literacy and Media program, with a targeted emphasis on integrating technology, literacy, and literature to support the district curriculum and standards. The specialist will be responsible for managing the media center, ensuring equitable access to resources, fostering a positive learning environment, and acquiring relevant information resources. Additionally, the role involves acting as an instructional consultant to teachers, assisting with curriculum development, differentiation, and professional learning related to information literacy. The specialist will also function as an instructional technologist, evaluating and utilizing emerging technologies to enhance teaching and learning, and providing training to staff on digital tools.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree
  • Valid Michigan teaching certificate with endorsement in an area of library media, technology, reading, or related field.
  • Demonstrated ability in the use of information technology.
  • Demonstrated ability in instructional design.

  • Three years of classroom experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements policies and procedures for the operation of the media center in accordance with district policy that facilitate effective acquisition, circulation, and access to resources within and beyond the school day.
  • Implements solutions that address physical, social, cultural, linguistic, and intellectual barriers to equitable access to resources and services.
  • Creates and maintains an environment that is inviting, safe, adaptable, and conducive to active learning as well as one that encourages literature appreciation and promotes reading for information.
  • Acquires and organizes information resources and technologies that provides a range of diverse print and digital materials to support student inquiry and performs ongoing analysis of and reflection on the quality, usefulness and accuracy of curated resources.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Building Principal or the Assistant Superintendents of Elementary and Secondary Teaching and Learning.
  • Collaborates with teachers to build and strengthen connections between student information skills, curricular content, learning outcomes, and information resources.
  • Assists teachers in developing resource-based units and activities, integrating information literacy instruction, resources, and assessment within the curriculum.
  • Assists in differentiation of instruction with both individual students and small groups.
  • Designs and leads professional learning opportunities that reinforce the impact of the school library's resources, services, and programming on learners' academic learning and educators' effectiveness.
  • Promotes and models the importance of information-use skills by publicizing to learners, staff and the community available services and resources; serves on school and district-wide committees; and engages in community and professional activities.
  • Builds and advocates for relationships with stakeholders who recognize and support an effective school library.
  • Fulfills requests for specific information and resources aligned with student needs and curricula.
  • Collaborates with outside sources for additional resources and programs for the school community.
  • Remains current in professional practices and research.
  • Evaluates, promotes, and uses existing and emerging instructional technologies to support teaching and learning and supplement school resources to connect the school with the global learning community.
  • Cooperatively works with other district staff members on instructional curriculum and technology initiatives and provides leadership in assessing, evaluating, and implementing informational and instructional technologies.
  • Provides instruction in the use of educational technology to access information within and outside the library media center and promotes the use of electronic resources provided by other entities, e.g. public libraries and the Michigan eLibrary.
  • Provides professional learning opportunities for staff in the use of evolving digital tools and technologies to engage students, improve learning outcomes, and create classroom efficiency.
  • Cooperatively works with other district staff members on curriculum and educational technology initiatives.
