Region VII Area Agency on Aging is accepting applications for a highly motivated Information & Assistance Specialist. The Company: Region VII Area Agency on Aging is a non-profit organization that helps seniors, adults with disabilities have greater independence in their homes and communities, and is known for the great care we provide to clients. To provide effective and innovative care to improve the well-being of community residents. Responsible for helping the administration of the multi-thousand dollar Title V Senior Community Services Employment Program (SCSEP). He/she has the independent authority to seek out, develop and implement funding opportunities and partnerships for older worker employment and training and advocates on the behalf of seniors (trainees). Purpose of the position The Information and Assistance (I&A) Specialist advocates for and provides information and assistance to the public/elderly population and their families in making informed choices of their service needs and links them to federal, state and local community agencies and programs in fulfillment of those needs. I&A Specialist is co-responsible for the administration and coordination of public information regarding internal/external communication activities; agency brochures and printed informational materials; networking with fellow professionals within the region and state to keep abreast of program offerings and outreach materials; and is responsible for the I&A data collection application. They are required to be a SHIP volunteer. They will be responsible for conducting Friendly Reassurance Calls to ensure the safety, health, and well-being of seniors in the community.

Requirements

Minimum of BA/BS degree with a preferable area of concentration in business, marketing, social work, counseling, or social services.
Strong computer and communication skills.
Internet expertise.
Ability to interact with the public, staff, agencies, private/public organizations.
Knowledge of supportive service systems.
Knowledge of marketing.
Aptitude for problem-solving.
Understanding and patience for older persons’ and their needs.
Ability to effectively communicate with the person in need (or family members).
Willing and able to travel within all ten counties of the region (and at times out of the region area) in reliable transportation.

Nice To Haves

AIRS (Alliance of Information & Referral Systems) certification preferred.
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the formal education requirement.
Communicate effectively in highly visible and/or adversarial situations.

Participate actively in all on-the-job and formal learning and development opportunities to understand roles and responsibilities.
Ability to accept and adjust to changing priorities and circumstances.

Responsibilities
