The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) is seeking an Information & Referral Assistant to work with the Department of Workers’ Rights and Labor Legal Services in managing the EMPLEO Hotline. EMPLEO, which stands for Employment, Education and Outreach, is an educational inter-state program aimed at making the Hispanic community aware of their workplace rights. The program officially launched in the Western U.S. in 2004 and continues to expand into other regions of the country. EMPLEO addresses the concerns of recent immigrants who aren’t always familiar with their workplace rights in the U.S. Many immigrants have multifaceted concerns that reach across agency or organizational lines. By using a cooperative approach, the Information & Referral Assistant will direct individuals looking to file a claim with a Labor Agency in the right direction. This candidate will work with the Workers’ Rights Legal Team to document complaints and concerns from workers across a broad range of labor-related issues to then refer them to the appropriate state or federal agency. The Information and Referral Assistant will also assist the Workers’ Rights Legal Team in identifying California residents who would be best served by referring them to CHIRLA’s Workers’ Rights and Labor Legal Services Department.
