About The Position

The Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cloud Engineer to join its Office of Information Technology (OIT). This position plays a foundational role in the design, implementation, management, and optimization of our multi-cloud infrastructure, currently spanning Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure. The Cloud Engineer will collaborate closely with the CIO, IT Architects, cybersecurity personnel, DevOps teams, and agency leadership to deliver secure, scalable, and high-performing cloud solutions. This is a technical leadership position requiring deep, hands-on cloud expertise, effective communication with executive stakeholders, alignment of cloud initiatives with agency strategy, and serving as a subject-matter expert in cloud governance and modernization efforts. The position reports directly to the Sr. Mgr., Information Technology - Infrastructure and is vital for updating our technology infrastructure to better serve Georgia’s citizens.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or related specialty from an accredited college or university AND ten (10) years of job-specific experience that includes system analysis, design and development, and relationship management.
  • OR Equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional
  • Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification
  • Experience in government or public sector IT environments
  • Experience with Georgia Technology Authority (GTA) standards and practices
  • Knowledge of state government procurement and compliance requirements
  • Experience with database administration in cloud environments
  • Familiarity with identity management systems and single sign-on solutions
  • Experience with serverless architectures and microservices
  • Previous experience with high-availability and disaster recovery implementations
  • Minimum five (5) years of progressive experience in cloud engineering, cloud architecture, or cloud infrastructure administration
  • Demonstrated hands-on experience with the following platforms: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Microsoft Azure
  • Proficiency in at least two scripting languages: Python, Bash, or PowerShell
  • Experience implementing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools
  • Working knowledge of container technologies, including Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience with CI/CD pipeline design and DevOps tooling
  • Familiarity with cloud security frameworks, including NIST 800-53 or CIS Benchmarks
  • Experience with version control systems, specifically Git
  • Must be able to work onsite at DDS headquarters in Conyers, GA.
  • Must pass a background and credit check.
  • Valid Georgia driver's license required.
  • Associate degree and five (5) years of job-specific experience that includes system analysis, design and development, and relationship management.

Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and maintain scalable, highly available, and secure cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and GCP environments
  • Develop and manage cloud networking components, including VPCs, subnets, security groups, load balancers, VPN gateways, and private endpoints
  • Implement and manage cloud storage, compute, and database services with appropriate redundancy, backup, and disaster recovery configurations
  • Conduct regular cloud architecture reviews, cost optimization analyses, and infrastructure health assessments
  • Manage and maintain cloud-to-cloud and cloud-to-on-premises connectivity solutions, including hybrid network tunnels and direct connect configurations
  • Develop and maintain reusable Infrastructure as Code (IaC) modules using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation, and/or Azure Bicep
  • Automate cloud provisioning, configuration management, and resource lifecycle operations to reduce manual effort and increase repeatability
  • Implement auto-scaling policies, resource tagging strategies, and policy-as-code controls to enforce governance standards
  • Design and maintain automation scripts using Python, Bash, and PowerShell for operational and maintenance tasks
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, or AWS C
