About The Position

The Infection Preventionist (IP) at St. Tammany Health System is responsible for collaborating with the Director of Infection Prevention to lead activities aimed at preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs). This role involves the systematic collection, analysis, and interpretation of health data to develop, implement, evaluate, and disseminate effective public health practices. The IP will work closely with the Office of Public Health to identify and mitigate outbreaks. Additionally, the IP is tasked with reporting HAI and quality data to various facility, county, state, and federal entities. The position also includes making recommendations for construction, renovation, and environmental rounds, ensuring compliance with national and professional standards, and conducting educational and training programs for healthcare workers on best practices.

Requirements

  • Completed post-secondary education in a health-related field including but not limited to medicine, nursing, laboratory technology, public health, or biology
  • Two years of hospital-based healthcare experience
  • Active licensure if required by state governing body i.e. Registered Nurse, Med Tech, Social Work, Respiratory Therapist
  • Certified in Infection Control or obtain certification within three years of employment
  • Collaboration, leadership, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to implement evidence-based guidelines
  • Knowledge and ability to collect, analyze, and present data
  • Must maintain a positive, professional impression when dealing with all customers
  • A good command of the spoken and written English language

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing, epidemiology, microbiology, medical technology, public health, or another health-related field
  • Experience in Infection Prevention

Responsibilities

  • Working with the Director of Infection Prevention in directing St. Tammany Health System’s activities aimed at preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs)
  • Ensuring that sources of infections are isolated to limit the spread of infectious organisms
  • Systematically collecting, analyzing, and interpreting health data in order to plan, implement, evaluate, and disseminate appropriate public health practices
  • Working with the Office of Public Health to identify outbreaks and initiate action plans to mitigate the outbreak
  • Performing the reporting of HAI and quality data for the various facility, county, state, and federal reporting requirements
  • Making recommendations regarding construction, renovation, and environmental rounds
  • Assuring compliance with national and/or professional standards
  • Conducting educational and training activities for healthcare workers through instruction and dissemination of information on healthcare practices
