About The Position

The Infection Prevention RN helps protect patients, staff, and families from preventable infections while keeping care aligned with comfort-focused goals. The position centers on surveillance, staff education in collaboration with the Clinical Educator, policy support, and practical infection prevention and control measures such as hand hygiene, PPE use, cleaning, and exposure response. Overall, the job is about reducing infection risk in a way that supports compassionate end-of-life care.

Requirements

  • Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Washington State.
  • Certification in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Basic Life Safety (BLS).
  • Washington State Food Worker Card issued by the Department of Health.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical nursing experience.
  • Strong teaching, communication, and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with external partners.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and educational methodologies.
  • Familiarity with infection control surveillance, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Availability to work weekends, evenings, nights, and holidays as part of the administrator on-call rotation.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, and reliable transportation, as driving is an essential function of this role.
  • Must meet insurance eligibility requirements.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen which includes cannabis testing in Washington State.
  • Demonstrate support and adherence to the agency’s Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Maintain reliable personal transportation.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance per state requirements.
  • Satisfy state and agency health requirements by providing proof of immunization, declinations, or approved accommodations as applicable.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a related field.
  • Experience in clinical education and/or infection prevention.
  • Certified Hospice and Palliative Care Nurse (CHPN) through the Hospice and Palliative Care Credentialing Center (HPCC).
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC).
  • Hospice and/or palliative care experience.
  • Experience in supervision, team leadership, or staff development.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English, with the ability to speak, read, write, and communicate effectively in both languages.

Responsibilities

  • Surveillance for infections.
  • Staff education in collaboration with the Clinical Educator.
  • Policy support for infection prevention and control.
  • Implementing practical infection prevention and control measures such as hand hygiene, PPE use, cleaning, and exposure response.
  • Reducing infection risk to support compassionate end-of-life care.
  • Participate in the after-hours administrator on-call rotation.
  • Provide after hours support as required.
  • Participate in education and outreach activities to promote agency programs.
  • Maintain knowledge of and comply with agency policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Protect patient and agency information per HIPAA guidelines.
  • Complete agency and departmental orientation and required training programs.
  • Complete ongoing education, policy reviews, and training by designated deadlines.
