About The Position

The Infection Prevention Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the hospital infection prevention and control program. Under the direction of the Associate Vice President of Quality & Patient Safety, this role oversees infection surveillance activities, supports regulatory compliance, coordinates outbreak investigations, provides staff education, and facilitates implementation of evidence-based infection prevention practices. The Manager works collaboratively with clinical and operational departments to reduce healthcare-associated infections, promote patient and workforce safety, and support organizational quality goals. This position provides operational oversight of infection prevention activities and supervision of infection prevention staff while serving as a key resource for infection prevention standards and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Microbiology, Epidemiology, Healthcare Administration, or related healthcare field is required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of healthcare experience, including at least three (3) years in infection prevention, epidemiology, or quality is required
  • Experience with CDC NHSN surveillance methodologies and healthcare-associated infection reporting.
  • Knowledge of CMS, Joint Commission, DNV, OSHA, CDC, and APIC infection prevention requirements.
  • Experience with data analysis, chart review, and quality improvement methodologies.
  • Experience using EPIC Bugsy infection control and surveillance module within the Epic Systems electronic health record.
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is required
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse by the Virginia Department of Health Professions or Compact State Nursing license is required, or, Medical Technologist (MT/MLS) is required, or, Other healthcare-related professional license as appropriate to educational background
  • Advanced knowledge of infection prevention principles, epidemiology, and healthcare-associated infection surveillance.
  • Strong understanding of accreditation, regulatory, and reporting requirements.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex clinical and operational data.
  • Exceptional communication and presentation skills with the ability to engage frontline staff, physicians, and executive leadership.
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary initiatives and influence change without direct authority.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with proficiency in EHR systems, NHSN, Excel, and reporting tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to urgent infection prevention concerns.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology, Healthcare Administration, or related field is preferred.
  • Leadership or management experience in infection prevention, quality, patient safety, or healthcare operations is preferred.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary committees and organizational improvement initiatives.
  • Experience with electronic surveillance systems and data visualization tools is preferred.
  • Lean, Six Sigma, CPHQ, CPPS, or related professional certification is preferred
