About The Position

Under the general supervision of Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) leadership, the Infection Prevention & Control Co-op position assists the IPC team with daily surveillance, public health reporting, and project implementation. This position is designed for a student currently enrolled in a co-operative education program in the Health Sciences, Nursing, or Pre-Health (e.g., pre-med) and is seeking additional hands-on experience in infection prevention and healthcare operations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Enrolled in a cooperative education program at a college/university.
  • Vocational or Technical training in Health Sciences, Nursing, or Pre-health (e.g., Pre-med) required.
  • Basic skills and familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite applications and/or other web-based applications (e.g., REDCap) required.
  • Detail oriented, effective communicator with analytical abilities and strong interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • 0-1 years of work experience preferred.
  • Experience in the use of electronic health records, particularly Epic, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hand hygiene direct observation across all inpatient care units, and other settings as directed by IPC leadership. Collect hand hygiene data with electronic software (e.g., REDCap).
  • Perform surveillance for antimicrobial-resistant organisms; interface with hospital staff regarding isolation precautions, as needed.
  • Assist in the reporting of communicable diseases to the Department of Public Health.
  • Assist IPC team in quality improvement activities related to hand hygiene, as needed.
  • Assist with collection, analysis, and distribution of infection prevention data for both reporting and special projects, as determined by IPC leadership.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary workgroup or task forces requiring IPC input; tasks include literature review, and data collection and analysis for presentation.
  • Participate in research and quality improvement projects within the division, as desired.
  • Other duties as assigned, as determined by IPC leadership.
