About The Position

United Way Miami is hiring an Infant Toddler Teacher to join their team. The Infant Toddler Teacher will provide a safe and nurturing environment for children, fostering their social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development. This role involves collaborating with the Director EHS-CCP Site to design and implement a developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with UWM guidelines, the EHS-CCP grant, and Head Start Performance Standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) 45-hour child care training requirement must be completed within the first year of employment.
  • 15 in-service training hours annually.
  • A CDA with a focus on Infant/Toddler is required.
  • Candidates who do not currently possess a CDA may be considered for employment as a Substitute Teacher at an hourly rate of $16.50 on a temporary basis while working toward obtaining their CDA. The CDA must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
  • One year of experience working with young children in an early childhood education setting preferred.
  • Knowledge of modern web browsers, Beginning Word, Beginning Outlook.

Responsibilities

  • Provide experiences that build on children's prior knowledge, encourage curiosity, and foster their questions, theories, and hypotheses.
  • Encourage and model appropriate behavior and expectations.

  • Capitalize on opportunities to help children build vocabulary by asking follow-up questions.
  • In collaboration with the Director EHS-CCP Site and Infant Toddler Specialist, design and implement a reflective curriculum, materials, activities, and environments daily.
  • Be responsible for the observation, documentation, and data-gathering process of each child’s health, behavior, growth, and development.
  • Use observations to plan and respond to individual and group needs.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and respect towards diverse backgrounds.
  • Design a thoughtful classroom environment to optimize interactions, social learning, and constructive play.
  • Analyze and interpret the learning process and share it with colleagues and children.
  • Follow a reflective planning cycle: Observe and reflect, Document and reflect, Reflect, discuss, and plan, Implement and reflect.
  • Partner with families in reflective planning.
  • Acknowledge and respond to parents and visitors in a friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Communicate daily, including conferences, events, and meetings.
  • Share resources with parents.
  • Schedule, develop plans, and conduct home visits in collaboration with Family Engagement Staff.
  • Keep information confidential and share only with pertaining staff.
  • Engage parents in ongoing communication about their child’s development screenings and assessments.
  • Implement the Brazelton Touchpoints guiding principles and assumptions.
  • Use data and share it with families to individualize instruction and create action plans.
  • Provide parents with activities to enhance their child’s development based on assessment results.
  • Review overall summary scores, subscales, and individual items from screenings and assessments.
  • Take the lead in guiding the team in developing classroom goals and action plans.
  • Ensure daily responsibilities are complete and jobs are shared.
  • Implement reflective supervision with the teaching team.
  • Supervise children, following all safety and health rules, and knowing the number of children in the group at all times.
  • Keep the environment safe, organized, and accessible to children.
  • Complete appropriate documentation to report incidents and accidents.
  • Keep abreast of the latest trends and research in the early childhood field.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and flexibility in child care practices, continuing ongoing professional growth.
  • Attend all required meetings/training and be punctual.
  • Protect the confidentiality of children.
  • Establish and maintain a relationship of cooperation, respect, and confidentiality with colleagues.
  • Participate in classroom and Center events.
  • Be open to communicate and collaborate at all times.
  • Take action and inform the Director when caring for a child with a significant injury, acknowledging and listening to a parent’s concern, filing a neglect and abuse complaint, or recording an unusual incident.
  • Follow state, federal, and UWM guidelines.
  • Demonstrate a full range of motion.
  • Be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Supervise and interact with children outdoors.
  • Respond immediately and appropriately to multiple situations or emergencies.
  • Communicate incidents/accidents with supervisor(s) and families, and complete proper documentation.
  • Maintain mental and physical alertness and an appropriate energy level.
