About The Position

Durango School District 9-R is accepting applications for an Infant/Toddler Teacher Aide to provide early education for infants and/or toddlers, supporting their physical, emotional, and language growth and development under the direction of the Center Director at Durango High School's Early Learning Center. This is a full-time position, 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week, beginning August 13, 2026. The role involves assisting both normally developing children and those with identified special needs, documenting observations, meeting developmental objectives, and maintaining a nurturing, safe, and clean environment in accordance with Colorado Child Care Rules and Regulations.

Requirements

  • Colorado Early Childhood Lead Teacher Qualified
  • Minimum of 1 year working in the Early Childhood field
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age

Nice To Haves

  • Experience is preferred but may not be necessary for hiring.
  • CPR and First Aid training preferred at hire; required within three months of hire.
  • All trainings required by the Colorado Department of Human Services for infant/toddler staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom and one-on-one support to children as necessary.
  • Assist director in modifying instructional materials and/or equipment to accommodate the child’s needs in the center.
  • Assist director in observing, monitoring, and recording child behavior, developmental progress, and medical needs.
  • Assist with expanding children’s verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
  • Assist with expanding children’s gross and fine motor skills.
  • Assist with preparing and maintaining the center, with a particular emphasis on safety and cleanliness.
  • Follow licensing protocols.
  • Assist children with feeding, diapering, toileting, hygiene, and cleanliness.
  • Assist and support in carrying out social/emotional support programs.
  • Facilitate children’s active participation with peers.
  • Assist in developing children’s skills in peer communication, social/emotional participation with peers.
  • Perform clerical duties and assist in preparing/organizing center materials.
  • Communicate with director about children’s growth and progress.
  • Assist with communication with parents/guardians about children’s growth and progress.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
