About The Position

The Ministry of Jobs, Economy, Trade and Immigration (JETI) is responsible for leading efforts to grow Alberta’s economy by supporting Alberta’s entrepreneurs and employers, promoting trade and investment, helping attract, recruit and retain skilled workers, and promoting safe, fair and healthy workplaces. The Industry Relations unit develops and sustains relationships with industry stakeholders to gather insights and sector-specific intelligence that inform JETI’s economic growth, vision, and job creation mandate. This position supports the Government, Industry Relations team by conducting research, analysis, and project coordination to guide strategic decision making and relevant stakeholders on economic policy and strategy development. The role facilitates engagement with industry partners, responds to Action Requests, and provides research, writing, and coordination support across the unit. The incumbent is responsible for developing, collecting, analyzing, evaluating, and disseminating information related to economic trends, industry environments, and Alberta’s business climate. Working as part of the Industry Relations unit, the position also supports program delivery, grant administration, and the development and execution of initiatives that advance Alberta’s economic growth and job creation objectives.

Requirements

  • University graduation in Business, Economics, Engineering, Public Administration, Political Science or a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible related private or public sector experience in industry development, regional economic development, investment attraction and knowledge in energy and manufacturing.
  • One year of degree for one year of education and vice versa will be considered as equivalent.
  • Strong communication skills, written and oral, experience in writing reports and executive briefing materials.
  • Requires a high degree of creativity, initiative, professionalism, discretion and judgment.
  • Ability to function well in a highly performing team-based environment that demands a high level of interpersonal skills and collaborative relationship building.
  • Ability to complete tasks independently and within allocated timelines.
  • High degree of proficiency with MS Office applications and database management.
  • Knowledge of the Alberta economy, key industry sectors and key stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of Alberta's competitive economic position in the Canadian, North American and global economies.
  • Knowledge of government programs that support entrepreneurs, job creators, investment attraction and economic development in Alberta, along with knowledge and understanding of other related government ministries, agencies and crown corporations.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare briefings, action requests, reports, and recommendations to support ministry priorities related to industry growth, investment attraction, and job creation.
  • Conduct research, analysis, and environmental scans on economic trends, industry developments, and emerging issues to inform policy, strategy, and program development.
  • Respond to stakeholder and executive information requests, coordinating input from subject matter experts and cross-ministry partners.
  • Build and maintain relationships with industry associations, municipalities, academic institutions, and internal stakeholders to support industry development initiatives and consistent messaging.
  • Provide information on government funding programs, supports, and services available to Alberta companies.
  • Develop and maintain sector profiles, databases, and industry intelligence to support decision-making, stakeholder engagement, and priority sector initiatives.
  • Support team operations through stakeholder engagement activities, presentation development, and coordination of industry development initiatives.
  • Monitor and communicate emerging trends, policies, best practices, and government activities that may impact industry development and strategic sector programming.
