About The Position

The Industrial Services Technician II supports the lead Conveyor Belt Splicer in all aspects of belt installation, maintenance, repair, and vulcanized/mechanical splicing. Working under the direction of the Industrial Services General Foreman, the Technician ensures safe, efficient, and reliable performance of material handling and process systems critical to client operations. This role ensures the lead splicer has what they need, when they need it—tools ready, materials prepped, and work areas safe and efficient. This is a hands-on position designed to develop into a full splicer over time.

Requirements

  • Proficient use of hand and power tools (grinders, buffers, cutters, press systems, etc.)
  • Knowledge of belt fabrics, carcass types, cover grades, and splice designs
  • Intermediate knowledge of technical procedures and industry standards.
  • Understanding of conveyor system components (pulleys, idlers, scrapers, chutes, lagging, rubber lining)
  • Communication skills to coach technicians and engage professionally with clients
  • Ability to train and mentor junior technicians in support of the Lead Technician
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work long shifts, nights, or weekends as required.
  • Comfortable working at heights, confined spaces, and around heavy equipment.
  • Willingness to travel long distances, stay out of town on projects for 2 to 3 weeks at a time as needed.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions from the supervisor.
  • Positive team-building attitude, understanding that we are here to work together as a team.
  • Ability to maintain compliance with safety programs and enforce standards
  • Ability to read tape measures and use measuring tools accurately.
  • Ability to solve problems under pressure and complete complex field tasks independently

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Two (2) + years of experience in conveyor belting or related industrial maintenance required.
  • Ability to meet requirements for industrial or mining sites required.
  • Valid state driver’s license and qualified to operate a vehicle under the conditions of the Company’s Driving Policy.
  • Ability to pass drug, driving, and background screenings.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform standard conveyor belt splicing, repairs, and installations.
  • Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance on belting and rubber systems.
  • Provide on-site support during shutdowns and emergency maintenance.
  • Mentor Level I Technicians in safe work practices and technical skills.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, supervisors, and peers on job status and requirements.
  • Set up tools, equipment, and materials before the splicer begins work.
  • Use and install the needed tools (grinder, skiver, cutters, brushes, clamps) with the splicer.
  • Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Prep materials such as rubber, patches, gum, and covers.
  • Grind, buff, and clean belt surfaces to splice specifications.
  • Assist with measuring, marking, and cutting belt ends.
  • Apply solvents, cements, and bonding agents as instructed.
  • Stage finger/step templates, fasteners, or splice materials.
  • Help assemble and align vulcanizing presses.
  • Run hoses, power cables, and thermocouples properly.
  • Monitor inflation pressure and heating controllers under supervision.
  • Tear down presses and clean platens after curing.
  • Lay out tools, splice kits, clamps, pry bars, come-alongs, ratchets, etc.
  • Assist with belt pulls, belt changeouts, tensioning, and tracking.
  • Support idler changes, scraper maintenance, and general conveyor tasks.
  • Change chutes, pulleys, liners, rollers, frames, ETC
  • Participate in JHAs, risk assessments, and pre-shift meetings.
  • Follow lockout/tagout rules and mine/industrial site safety policies.
  • Maintain clean walkways, remove tripping hazards, and manage cables/hoses.
  • Wear PPE such as hard hat, gloves, respirator, fall protection, cut gear etc.
  • Help take photos, record measurements, and complete basic job paperwork.
  • Communicate needs, issues, or hazards to the lead splicer immediately.
  • Assist with documenting temperatures, times, and pressures during cures.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties as directed.
