We are seeking an Industrial Project Engineer to serve as a technical and operational leader within a large-scale manufacturing facility in Pontiac, IL. This is an individual contributor role — without direct reports — that demands strong informal leadership, cross-functional coordination, and full ownership of key operational outcomes. You will focus on end-to-end process flow, throughput optimization, workforce alignment, and Lean transformation, working alongside a team of four other Industrial Engineers and collaborating daily with Production, Finance, Manufacturing, and Maintenance teams.

Requirements

  • 8–10 years of relevant engineering experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field required. Internship experience will not be counted toward the required years of experience.
  • Capacity Planning & Management — proficiency in tools and approaches for determining production demand and managing resources to meet operational targets.
  • Project Management — demonstrated ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects with efficient use of technical and administrative resources.
  • Lean Manufacturing — deep knowledge of Lean philosophy, principles, and implementation; proven ability to integrate Lean thinking into existing production and management processes.
  • Power Apps experience for workflow automation.
  • Data analytics skills with a focus on producing actionable operational insights.
  • Working knowledge of AI tools.
  • MODAPTS certification.
  • CAD proficiency.
  • Strong negotiation skills — ability to influence outcomes and align cross-functional stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity — able to make sound decisions and drive progress in dynamic, evolving manufacturing environments.
  • Strong problem-solving ability — applies structured approaches (A3, DMAIC) to anticipate and resolve operational and process challenges.
  • Sound judgment and decision-making — evaluates emerging business situations and selects the best path forward to maximize organizational performance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, analyze, and optimize end-to-end material and process flows across the manufacturing value stream.
  • Drive throughput improvements by reducing WIP, minimizing lead time, and eliminating bottlenecks.
  • Lead value stream mapping initiatives and implement future-state flow improvements.
  • Monitor and improve key performance metrics including throughput, on-time delivery, lead time, and capacity utilization.
  • Lead digital transformation initiatives including production KPI digitization and integration of autonomous robotics.
  • Develop and optimize staffing models, labor utilization, and workforce planning aligned to production demand.
  • Lead Lean and continuous improvement initiatives using structured problem-solving methodologies (A3, DMAIC) to systematically eliminate waste.
  • Partner with production, supply chain, quality, and maintenance teams to align materials, staffing, and execution with operational priorities.
