About The Position

Weyerhaeuser's engineered lumber facility in Buckhannon, WV is seeking an Industrial Mechanical Apprentice who has a desire to learn and become a Skilled Industrial Mechanic. The successful candidate will be required to enroll in and complete a Formalized Apprenticeship program. You should exhibit a strong commitment to safety, a positive attitude, excellent work ethic, and a desire to work hand in hand supporting the Mechanical team in a manufacturing facility performing a wide variety of maintenance tasks. Starting pay is to $27.17/hr

Requirements

  • High school diploma or General Education Degree GED.
  • Must be willing to perform all tasks assigned by Supervisor or Manager
  • Computer Skills, i.e. Windows, MS Office, SAP, etc.
  • Total commitment to Safety standards, policies and efficient maintenance operations.
  • Ability to: Work rotating shifts, to include weekends and holidays as operating conditions require.
  • Perform the essential physical functions of the position such as but not limited to; willing to climb stairs and ladders, navigate catwalks, lifting / pushing (50lbs), stooping, and bending.
  • Work in elevated/low temperatures (heat and cold) throughout the plant for the assigned shift.
  • Demonstrate basic / beginner welding skills.
  • Provide basic repair and troubleshooting skills with mechanically/electrically powered equipment as well as pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Highly motivated with the ability to learn and adapt.
  • A positive attitude that promotes collaborative team environment.
  • Willingness and ability to wear all required personal protective equipment including a respirator, as required.
  • Applicants must be able to pass a drug test, physical and background check.
  • Must meet all requirements of this Job Posting and the Buckhannon Plant Associate Wage Plan
  • The Successful Candidate will be required to enroll and complete the Formalized Apprenticeship Program consisting of on-the-job and in-school (online) training through RCBI.
  • Tuition into the program will be paid by Weyerhaeuser with the successful candidate agreeing to the following:
  • Must commit to finishing the complete Apprenticeship Program within the required time frame and meet the appropriate performance standard.
  • The Successful Candidate’s performance must also demonstrate trainee is qualified, within a six (6) month time frame, to continue in trainee position.
  • Performance will be measured / monitored by requiring the Trainee to take a hands-on skill assessment.
  • To progress to an Industrial Shift Mechanic, Trainee will be required to pass the APT Metrics online Mechanic 2 Skill Assessment and the hands-on presentation, no later than 1 year from the start of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational or technical school certificate, military training, and experience as they relate.
  • Skilled in the use of aerial work platforms, fork trucks and manlifts at all heights and locations in a manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge/Experience with the following: Metal fabrication, principles of hydraulic cylinder repair, machinery lubrication, precision installation of bearings, couplings, belts, sprockets, and chain drive systems.
  • SAP or other Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Comprehend blueprints, schematics, computers and appropriate test equipment.
  • Using precision alignment tools and practices
  • Fire protection systems
  • HVAC system maintenance and repair
  • Machine Shop tools and equipment
  • Industrial Air Compressors
  • Basic industrial electricity and controls

Responsibilities

  • Ensure machinery lubrication & other preventative maintenance assignments.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing mechanically/electrically powered equipment.
  • Bearing, shaft, coupling, belt, sprocket, and chain drive system installations and alignment.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing pneumatic and hydraulic systems with basic principles of cylinder repair.
  • Metal fabrication.
  • Some troubleshooting and exposure to industrial electricity and controls.
  • Adapt to evolving business needs and priorities.
  • Contribute to improving equipment reliability and Mill efficiency.
  • Actively participate in the program for skill development and trade certification.
