About The Position

To inspect, erect, repair, replace, install, adjust and maintain all mechanical equipment; fabricates, tanks, structural steel, etc. To perform all kinds of welding, brazing and cutting using gas and electric welding equipment.

Requirements

  • Ability to inspect, erect, repair, replace, install, adjust and maintain all mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to fabricate tanks and structural steel.
  • Proficiency in all kinds of welding, brazing and cutting using gas and electric welding equipment.
  • Familiarity with tools and equipment such as drill press, power saw, welding equipment, burning equipment, small hand tools, power tools, grinders, measuring devices, handles moving equipment, scaffolds, piping, gas and electric burning equipment, cleaning tools, shields, safety equipment, welding fixtures.
  • Knowledge of materials including steel, bronze, aluminum, asbestos, wood, lubricants, cloths, hardware, packing, repair parts, ferrous and nonferrous materials, welding rod, flux, gas, miscellaneous materials.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and sketches.
  • Ability to select materials and equipment for jobs.
  • Ability to lay out work, make sketches and determine stock sizes.
  • Ability to clean and prepare surfaces to be welded.
  • Ability to perform gas and electric welding in all positions.
  • Ability to make all types and sizes of welds (e.g., V lap, butt).
  • Ability to build up worn or defective surfaces.
  • Ability to use burning equipment to dismantle equipment.
  • Ability to cut material to size by burning.
  • Ability to perform brazing.
  • Adherence to all safety precautions.
  • Ability to make provisions for handling materials and equipment to and from job site.
  • Ability to keep working area clean.

Responsibilities

  • Inspects equipment for defects, misalignment, wear, etc.
  • Installs bearing, pins, bushings, gears, parts, etc.
  • Lubricates equipment on installation and repair.
  • Dismantles, cleans, replaces, repairs equipment and piping.
  • Makes sketches for own use.
  • Handles rigging equipment and erects scaffolds.
  • Operates machine tools.
  • Operates power tools and equipment.
  • Works in shop or field.
  • Advises when shut down of equipment is necessary.
  • Makes temporary and permanent repairs.
  • Adjusts equipment for proper operation.
  • Assembles and aligns gears, bearings, shafts, etc.
  • Receives instructions, prints and jobs orders.
  • Interprets drawings and sketches.
  • Selects materials and equipment for job.
  • Lays out work, makes sketches and determines stock sizes to be used.
  • Cleans and prepares surfaces to be welded.
  • Performs gas and electric welding in all positions.
  • Makes all types and sizes of welds such as V lap, butt, etc.
  • Builds up worn or defective surfaces.
  • Uses burning equipment to dismantle equipment.
