About The Position

Installs, maintains, and repairs machinery, equipment, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems in a manufacturing plant. This role involves visually inspecting and testing machinery, listening for unusual sounds to detect malfunctions, and discussing operations with supervisors to diagnose and repair issues. The mechanic will also be responsible for dismantling defective machines, installing new or repaired parts, and cleaning and lubricating machinery components. Additionally, the role includes installing and repairing electrical apparatus, pipe systems, and hydraulic/pneumatic equipment, as well as maintaining the physical structure of the plant and office building. Programming and repairing automated machinery, operating machine tools for fabrication, and using cutting torch or welding equipment are also key aspects of the position.

Requirements

  • 5 plus years’ experience in a related field.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Basic Math skills.
  • Ability to read a tape measure.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell.
  • Exerting 50-100 lbs. occasionally, and/or 25-50 lbs of force frequently, and/or 10-20 lbs constantly to move object.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
  • Frequently exposed to outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat.
  • Occasionally exposed to vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Nice To Haves

  • Certificate from college or technical school is a plus.
  • ELECTRICAL EXPERIENCE PREFERRED

Responsibilities

  • Visually inspects and tests machinery and equipment.
  • Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.
  • Dismantles defective machines and equipment and installs new or repaired parts.
  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery.
  • Installs and repairs electrical apparatus, such as transformers and wiring, and electrical and electronic components of machinery and equipment.
  • Lays out, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment.
  • Repairs and maintains physical structure of plant and office building.
  • Install, program, or repair automated machinery and equipment such as programmable controllers.
  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill, and milling machine to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools.
  • Operates cutting torch or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts.
