About The Position

The Industrial Maintenance Mechanic II is a skilled maintenance professional responsible for independently performing preventive maintenance, corrective repairs, troubleshooting, equipment installations, and process improvements on manufacturing equipment and facility systems. This position plays a critical role in maximizing equipment reliability, minimizing production downtime, and supporting safe, efficient manufacturing operations. The Maintenance Mechanic II is expected to diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electromechanical systems with minimal supervision. This position also supports equipment upgrades, new equipment installations, preventive maintenance optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), OSHA regulations, and company safety standards. Unlike the Industrial Maintenance Apprentice – Level I, who works primarily under supervision while learning maintenance fundamentals, the Maintenance Mechanic II independently performs maintenance activities, solves complex equipment issues, and serves as a technical resource for less experienced mechanics.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum four (4) years of industrial maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of technical education and hands-on experience.
  • Experience maintaining automated manufacturing or packaging equipment.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.

Nice To Haves

  • Forklift certification preferred or ability to obtain certification.
  • Associate degree or Technical Certificate in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, or related field.
  • Experience in cosmetics, food, pharmaceutical, or consumer packaged goods manufacturing.
  • Basic PLC troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with VFDs and motor controls.
  • Welding and fabrication experience is a plus.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on production equipment and facility systems with minimal supervision.
  • Complete preventive maintenance tasks safely, efficiently, and according to established maintenance procedures.
  • Inspect equipment for wear, damage, and reliability concerns.
  • Recommend preventive maintenance improvements to increase equipment reliability.
  • Create follow-up Work Orders for deficiencies identified during inspections.
  • Accurately document completed maintenance activities within the CMMS.
  • Independently diagnose and repair production equipment including: Bottle unscramblers, Liquid fillers, Tube fillers, Bottle cappers, Cap sorters, Induction sealers, Pressure-sensitive labelers, Shrink sleeve applicators, Cartoners, Case packers, Conveyors, Pumps, Mixers, Compressors, Facility support equipment.
  • Restore equipment to safe operating condition while minimizing production downtime.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, replace, and adjust: Bearings, Chains and sprockets, Belts, Gearboxes, Shafts, Rollers, Conveyor components, Pumps, Valves, Pneumatic cylinders, Mechanical seals, Couplings, Machine guarding.
  • Perform precision mechanical alignments and equipment adjustments.
  • Assist with and independently perform maintenance involving: Electric motors, Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), Motor starters, Contactors, Relays, Proximity sensors, Photo eyes, Limit switches, Load cells, Solenoid valves, Basic PLC input/output troubleshooting, Electrical wiring repairs within authorized skill level.
  • Use multimeters and electrical testing equipment to diagnose equipment faults while following electrical safety procedures.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair: Pneumatic valves, Air regulators, FRL assemblies, Air cylinders, Vacuum systems, Hydraulic cylinders, Hydraulic pumps, Hydraulic valves, Hydraulic hoses.
  • Identify leaks and replace defective components as needed.
  • Independently diagnose equipment failures involving: Mechanical failures, Product jams, Conveyor tracking, Bottle handling, Filling inconsistencies, Cap feeding issues, Label application problems, Sensor failures, Pneumatic leaks, Hydraulic failures, Electrical faults, Equipment startup issues.
  • Apply Root Cause Analysis techniques to reduce recurring failures.
  • Escalate only major control system or engineering issues when additional support is required.
  • Assist with and perform: Equipment installations, Production line modifications, Equipment relocation, Mechanical assembly, Pneumatic plumbing, Basic electrical installation, Equipment startup, Machine adjustments, Equipment validation support.
  • Support Engineering and Maintenance Leads during equipment improvement projects.
  • Participate in initiatives that improve equipment reliability and manufacturing performance by: Identifying recurring equipment failures, Recommending design improvements, Supporting Lean Manufacturing initiatives, Assisting with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), Participating in Root Cause Analysis investigations, Supporting Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA), Reducing equipment downtime, Improving Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to: Review assigned Work Orders, Complete maintenance documentation, Record labor hours, Document repair history, Upload repair photographs, Create follow-up Work Orders, Maintain accurate equipment maintenance records.
  • Comply with all applicable: OSHA regulations, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Hazard Communication requirements, Electrical safety procedures, Company safety policies.
  • Inspect equipment for safe operation before returning it to production.
  • Immediately report unsafe conditions and assist in implementing corrective actions.
  • Assist in training Industrial Maintenance Apprentice – Level I employees.
  • Share technical knowledge and best practices with maintenance team members.
  • Support Production and Setup teams during equipment troubleshooting.
  • Work collaboratively with Engineering, Quality, and Operations to minimize production interruptions.
