About The Position

Keep Fort Wayne's water and wastewater facilities running at peak performance! Join the City of Fort Wayne as an Industrial Maintenance Mechanic II. This role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing water and wastewater plant equipment across 100+ remote facilities. Responsibilities include preventative and predictive maintenance, rebuilding tanks, cleaning filters, and maintaining rotating pump assemblies. The position also requires operating heavy equipment, performing various trade tasks like painting and welding, utilizing a CMMS for tracking, and working safely in confined spaces. The role also entails responding to emergency breakdowns, being on-call, and collaborating with operators and management for regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED plus 3 years hands-on mechanical experience, OR associate degree in related field plus 2 years experience
  • CDL Class B w/Tanker endorsement (within 1 year of hire)
  • Confined Space Entry Certification
  • CPR, First Aid, and Bloodborne Pathogens certification
  • Strong mechanical, troubleshooting, and communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair water and wastewater plant equipment, including 100+ remote facilities
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance, rebuild tanks, clean filters, and maintain rotating pump assemblies
  • Operate heavy equipment including vac trucks, loaders, forklifts, and backhoes
  • Conduct painting, masonry, carpentry, glazing, welding, and machining tasks
  • Use CMMS to track maintenance, labor, and materials
  • Enter, exit, and work safely in confined spaces
  • Respond to emergency breakdowns and remain on-call as needed
  • Collaborate with operators and management to maintain regulatory compliance
