About The Position

The Industrial Hygienist will support NASA’s Stennis Space Center by evaluating workplace conditions, identifying potential health hazards, and ensuring compliance with applicable safety and regulatory requirements. This role involves conducting surveys and assessments, collecting and analyzing samples, reviewing procedures and design documents, and providing technical guidance to promote a safe and healthy work environment. The Industrial Hygienist will also support employee training, respond to health and safety concerns, and serve as a subject matter expert for industrial hygiene practices across the site.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Safety, or a related scientific field
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional industrial hygiene experience
  • Proficiency in evaluating chemical, biological, physical, and ergonomic hazards.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, NIOSH, ACGIH, and other applicable regulations and guidelines.
  • Excellent communication, training, and technical writing skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or ability to obtain certification
  • NASA or federal contract experience

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain an approved Industrial Hygiene (IH) plan in accordance with NPR 1800.1 and OSHA requirements, covering programs such as asbestos, ergonomics, hazard communication, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, thermal stress, indoor air quality, and other occupational health hazards.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain a Health Physics (HP) plan for ionizing and non-ionizing radiation safety, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Conduct IH surveillance and assessments, including workplace inspections, exposure monitoring, and collection/analysis of field samples.
  • Inspect food service providers and facilities, including food trucks and vending operations, to ensure compliance with sanitary requirements using a risk-based inspection approach.
  • Investigate reported workplace hazards within two business days, document findings, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Conduct radiological safety inspections of laboratories with radiological hazards to ensure compliance with NRC regulations.
  • Review and evaluate work documents, construction design documents, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and NASA requirements.
  • Provide industrial hygiene and health physics training to employees and contractors.
  • Respond to and evaluate employee health and safety concerns, providing technical guidance and subject matter expertise.
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation in accordance with NASA and contract requirements.
  • Coordinate closely with safety, medical, facilities, and engineering teams to identify, assess, and resolve workplace hazards.
  • Support audits, inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives as required.
