About The Position

This internship focuses on industrial engineering principles to improve productivity, reduce waste, and enhance workflow. Interns will assist with time studies, work measurement, line balancing, and layout planning. They will analyze production data, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and participate in continuous improvement projects. A key part of the role involves researching AI automation options for business processes and presenting findings to leadership. The position requires the ability to work onsite in Smyrna, TN.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate/graduate degree program in Industrial Engineering or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and time study techniques.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Self-starter with a passion for manufacturing and process optimization.
  • Ability to perform work onsite at Smyrna, TN.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and provide proof of employment eligibility.
  • Must pass drug and background screenings.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD or similar tools is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in time studies, work measurement, and line balancing to improve productivity and reduce waste.
  • Support layout planning and workstation design to enhance ergonomics and workflow.
  • Analyze production data to identify bottlenecks and recommend process improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Production, Quality, and Maintenance to implement lean manufacturing principles.
  • Participate in Kaizen events and continuous improvement projects.
  • Document standard operating procedures (SOPs) and update process documentation.
  • Utilize tools such as AutoCAD, Excel, and simulation software to model and evaluate process changes.
  • Conduct a project to research AI automation options for business processes within the IE department.
  • Present findings and recommendations to engineering and operations leadership.
