About The Position

The Industrial Engineer with Automation experience is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and improving automated manufacturing systems that deliver safe, efficient, high-quality production. This role combines automation expertise with industrial engineering methods to optimize throughput, labor utilization, ergonomics, material flow, and standardized work across manufacturing operations. The engineer partners with manufacturing, quality, launch, maintenance, suppliers, and cross-functional engineering teams to support new automation projects, continuous improvement initiatives, and plant performance objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, automation, or industrial engineering in an automotive or discrete manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with automated manufacturing systems or production equipment execution.
  • Experience applying industrial engineering tools such as line balancing, standard time analysis, throughput improvement, layout optimization, waste elimination, or ergonomics.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, standardized work, PFMEA, process validation, and continuous improvement methods.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, Teamcenter, or process simulation.
  • Experience with manufacturing launch, commissioning, equipment runoff, or plant floor implementation.
  • Experience with Power BI or other business intelligence/reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with automotive assembly, propulsion, plant floor systems, or material flow processes

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement automation solutions for manufacturing systems, including support for new and existing production programs.
  • Apply industrial engineering principles to improve line balance, reduce waste, optimize labor utilization, and increase throughput.
  • Analyze manufacturing operations, workflows, cycle times, bottlenecks, and equipment performance to identify and execute improvement opportunities.
  • Support plant and program teams in automation system design, equipment integration, commissioning, validation, and production launch activities.
  • Develop and maintain standardized work, process documentation, and engineering deliverables such as layouts, work combination analysis, time studies, and operating procedures.
  • Perform root cause analysis for equipment, process, and performance issues; implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, contractors, and internal teams to review hardware/software designs, validate standards compliance, and ensure successful execution of projects.
  • Support ergonomic assessments and process design improvements to enhance operator safety and efficiency.
  • Use data, reporting, and digital tools to monitor performance, identify trends, and drive fact-based decisions.
  • Support continuous improvement workshops and productivity initiatives aligned to safety, quality, cost, and delivery targets.
  • Ensure compliance with engineering standards, manufacturing requirements, safety systems, and applicable controls architecture.
  • Communicate project status, risks, timing, and technical recommendations to stakeholders and leadership.
