The Industrial Engineering Organization provides mission-critical support to EB leadership and the functional organizations by developing and managing the organization's improvement strategies, executing improvement initiatives, mentoring and supporting employees in executing improvements, and measuring the impact of an organization's improvement activities. The Industrial Engineer supports 3 main areas of focus: 1. Support Work Center design (defining the location that a series of work activities are performed and all the equipment, tooling, fixtures and personnel required) for Columbia construction. The Industrial Engineer will partner with Operations, Ship’s Management and Planning to create standard, repeatable plans for each Work Center. 2. Support Work Center execution for Columbia construction. The Industrial Engineer will partner with Operations, Ship’s Management and Planning to ensure successful completion of work within the Work Center. 3. Responsible for the application of Lean Manufacturing and / or Lean Six Sigma principles to investigate, analyze and facilitate process change directly resulting in reduced costs and lead times within the manufacturing and outfitting areas in Groton Shipyard. Selected candidate will demonstrate strong project management skills and the ability to work under minimal supervision and in a team environment. Candidate will assist with mentoring junior employees. Candidate must be able to handle working on multiple projects. Candidate must be capable of combining assertive initiative with professional discipline to accomplish challenging tasks, and work as Change Agents to remove barriers that hinder change. The selected applicants will receive training and certification in Lean and Six Sigma in support of improving Electric Boat’s business processes.
