Lunar Operations - Industrial Engineer

Blue Origin•Space Coast, FL

About The Position

As an Industrial Engineer III in Lunar Manufacturing Operations at Blue Origin, you will own production-system problems from start to finish with little direction from management. You will work with design, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain as a trusted industrial engineering consultant, turning production data into decisions that help keep lunar hardware safe, on schedule, and on cost. The work may involve production areas that are still being established, where tools, data, and standard work do not yet exist and need to be built. Depending on skills, business needs, and the production portfolio, candidates may focus on manufacturing process optimization, capacity planning and resource management, or production quality and risk management. Focus areas include process mapping, time studies, MES data accuracy, cycle-time reduction, lean implementation, resource and capacity models, process audits, corrective actions, and risk assessments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of industrial engineering experience in a manufacturing environment; aerospace or high-tech experience is preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in at least three industrial engineering focus areas, such as time study, capacity analysis, process modeling, cost/benefit analysis, facilities layout, root-cause analysis, or labor budgeting, demonstrated through delivered projects.
  • Experience leading cross-functional improvement projects from scoping through measured results.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP, MRP, MES, or PLM systems and enterprise-level production tracking.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the judgment to question data quality before drawing conclusions.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration and technical documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Applicants must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • Lean Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher) or equivalent continuous-improvement experience.
  • Advanced Excel modeling; experience with SQL, Python, or Databricks for production data analysis.
  • Experience with business intelligence and visualization tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or similar.
  • Experience with simulation tools such as AnyLogic or similar, and/or 3D modeling such as CATIA or similar.
  • Experience with PLM software such as Windchill or similar and document management tools such as SharePoint or similar.
  • Experience with capacity models, labor utilization planning, or facility/asset sizing for a production ramp.
  • Demonstrated process improvements in aerospace or another regulated manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze and design production workflows and processes to improve safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness; own assigned areas with little management tasking.
  • Lead complex cross-functional improvement projects with major business impact, from scoping through delivery, and meet commitments.
  • Apply lean manufacturing and continuous-improvement methods, including 8D, DMAIC, and PDCA, to plan, facilitate, and track workshops, kaizens, and problem-solving events.
  • Partner with design and manufacturing engineering as an industrial engineering consultant to validate manufacturability and drive product and process improvements.
  • Conduct time studies and work sampling, and keep build durations and labor requirements up to date in the Manufacturing Execution System (MES).
  • Analyze labor, equipment, and facility capacity; translate production plans into resource needs and identify output constraints.
  • Verify source data by tracing it to its system of record, testing it against actuals, and flagging gaps before using it for analysis.
  • Develop and refine standard operating procedures and standard industrial engineering tools and templates for the assigned area, subject to senior IE review.
  • Monitor and report build-health metrics, including producibility, schedule adherence, labor performance, and quality; drive root-cause analysis and corrective actions through sustained resolution.
  • Support risk assessments and ensure compliance with safety regulations, industry standards, and company policy.
  • Capture and share lessons learned and best practices across teams and sites.
  • Depending on assigned focus area, own process mapping, time studies, MES data accuracy, and cycle-time reduction for assembly lines; build labor, equipment, and space capacity models; or coordinate process audits, corrective action plans, and preventive risk assessments.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Basic and supplemental life insurance.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Short- and long-term disability coverage.
  • 401(k) with company match of up to 5%.
  • Education Support Program.
  • Stock options for regular employees working at least 20 hours per week.
  • Up to four weeks of paid time off per year based on scheduled weekly hours.
  • Up to 14 company-paid holidays.
  • Depending on role type and job level, employees may be eligible for benefits and bonuses based on company policy and other factors; amounts and eligibility are not guaranteed.
