About The Position

The Industrial Electrician is responsible for inspecting, repairing, replacing, installing, adjusting, and maintaining all electrical equipment within the plant. This role also involves making mechanical repairs to cranes and other equipment as needed in connection with electrical service. The position requires performing work with a minimum of direction, either working alone or directing helpers. The electrician will receive instructions for scheduled and emergency repairs, installations, and inspections, and will respond to signals for electrical maintenance. Key tasks include inspecting electrical equipment, diagnosing and troubleshooting faults using testing equipment and general electrical knowledge, and determining the most efficient repair methods to minimize production interruption. The role involves interpreting drawings and wiring diagrams, dismantling, cleaning, repairing, replacing, installing, maintaining, assembling, and lubricating electrical equipment while adhering to all safety precautions. Adjustments to equipment for proper operation, and both temporary and permanent repairs to various electrical systems are expected. Mechanical and electrical repairs on cranes, and mechanical repairs related to electrical equipment servicing are also part of the duties. The electrician will erect scaffolds, perform simple rigging, operate small machine tools, check air compressor operation, and occasionally operate a crane or perform minor mechanical repairs in the absence of other maintenance personnel. Simple burning or welding related to the work, and conduit installation are also occasional duties. Maintaining a clean and orderly work area is required.

Requirements

  • Journeyman electrician papers through an accredited journeyman program OR Associates degree in electrical technology or comparable degree from an accredited school or college.
  • At least 2 years of industrial electrical experience.
  • Self-employment is not acceptable.
  • Applicants will be asked to pass an electrical written test.
  • Pass a pre-employment physical, background check, and drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, repair, replace, install, adjust, and maintain all electrical equipment in the plant.
  • Make mechanical repairs to cranes and other equipment in connection with electrical service.
  • Answer signals for electrical maintenance.
  • Inspect all electrical equipment, checking motor bearings, lubrication, commutation, excessive vibration, and signs of wear or need for adjustment.
  • Diagnose trouble using testing equipment or own judgment based on general knowledge of electrical principles when faulty operation is observed.
  • Determine the best way of making repairs to minimize interruption of production.
  • Advise when immediate shutdown of equipment is necessary or when temporary continued operation will have no harmful effect.
  • Interpret and analyze drawings and wiring diagrams to locate and trace electrical circuits.
  • Dismantle, clean, repair, replace, install, maintain, assemble, and lubricate electrical equipment, taking all safety precautions.
  • Adjust equipment to obtain proper operating characteristics.
  • Make temporary or permanent repairs to equipment such as main motor drives, generators, control panels, relays, interlocking control systems, electronic devices, and circuit breakers.
  • Make mechanical and electrical repairs on cranes.
  • Make mechanical repairs as required in connection with the servicing of electrical equipment.
  • Erect scaffolds and perform simple rigging as required.
  • Operate small machine tools, such as drill press and power saw.
  • Check air compressor for proper operation, and may start, stop, or adjust the compressor.
  • Occasionally operate a crane as required to check condition or make miscellaneous lifts in the absence of the craneman.
  • May make emergency, minor mechanical repairs in the absence of other maintenance personnel.
  • Occasionally perform simple burning or welding pertaining to his work.
  • Occasionally install conduit in connection with electrical maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly working area and clean up after repair or installation is completed.
