About The Position

The current vacancies exist in the Wastewater Management Division for the Department of Public Utilities. However, this classification also exists in the Water Division of Public Utilities and Transportation Department. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of three (3) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligible list may be limited to three (3) months.

Requirements

Completion of a recognized four-year electrical apprenticeship program AND Two (2) years of experience as a journey-level Electrician in an industrial setting performing troubleshooting, repair, and installation transmission and power distribution equipment, large motors and motor control centers, and programmable logic controllers.
Sixty (60) semester units from an accredited college or university in a related electrical field AND Two (2) years of experience as a journey-level Electrician in an industrial setting performing troubleshooting, repair, and installation transmission and power distribution equipment, large motors and motor control centers, and programmable logic controllers.
Six (6) years of full-time electrician work experience in an industrial setting performing troubleshooting, repair, and installation of transmission and power distribution equipment, large motors and motor control centers, and programmable logic controllers.
Required to obtain a California State Electrician's Certificate of Competency within one (1) year of appointment and maintain a valid certificate for the entire term of employment in this class.
Possession and maintenance of a valid Class C California Driver's License is required at time of appointment.
Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and a current copy of their driving record.
The selected eligible candidates certified will be required to successfully pass a Department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint prior to employment with the City of Fresno.

Responsibilities

Maintain and repair industrial electrical systems.
Service high-voltage substations and equipment.
Install and troubleshoot variable frequency drives and PLCs.
Follow safe practices for handling energized circuits.
Inspect and overhaul power generation components.
Interpret electrical diagrams and blueprints.
Install lighting, signaling, and communication systems.
Use computers for work orders and inventory access.
Maintain equipment using vibration analysis, thermography, ultrasonic analysis, oil analysis, and other predictive monitoring technologies, depending upon assignment.
Perform related duties as assigned.
