About The Position

The Industrial Electrician is responsible for the safe and efficient installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical equipment and machinery. This role requires adherence to electrical codes, manuals, specifications, schematic diagrams, and blueprints to ensure compliance with all safety electrical standards. To minimize downtime, routine preventative maintenance will be required per assigned shift.

Requirements

  • Intermediate mechanical aptitude, and advanced electrical aptitude.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to comprehend and convey mechanical and electrical information.
  • Ability to operate yard truck, forklift, man lifts, overhead crane, hoist, various hand & power tools, computer, drill press, threaders, benders, grinders, micrometer, vernier caliper, t-square, level, impact wrenches and measuring tape.
  • Ability to operate and effectively use oscilloscope, power meter, ohms meter, megger, phase rotation checker, voltage tester, amp meter.
  • Some personal insulated electrical tools are required.
  • Ability to adapt quickly to a multicultural environment.
  • Proficient with the National Electric Code (NEC), NFPA 70E, LOTO, PPE, OSHA workplace practices, etc.
  • Must have colored vision to be able to identify and differentiate colored wiring.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.
  • High school diploma, GED (or equivalent experience), with trade school Journeyman level skills.
  • Four (4) to five (5) years of previous electrical experience in a heavy industrial environment (utilizing voltages of, but not limited to, 120, 240, 480, 2,360, 4,160, 12,500, 13,800).
  • Experience in steam and turbine generation.
  • Knowledge and expertise in steam/gas turbines associated with power plants.
  • Knowledge of electrical theory, NFPA 70E, the National Electrical Code (N.E.C.).
  • Knowledge of PLC’s and experience in industrial controls, transformers, and electric motor troubleshooting and repair.
  • Understanding of material handling systems, piping, valves, pressure vessels, pumps, cooling towers, building & grounds, and air compressors.
  • Knowledge of Good Manufacturing and Maintenance Practices (GMMP).
  • Knowledge and experience with computers and application software; specifically, MS Office, CMMS systems, Web based applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to operate and use a Motor Circuit Analyzer, and/or Vibration Analyzer.
  • Familiarity with ISA/IEEE standards.
  • Bilingual and Biliterate – English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting, predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance, and repairing PLCs, VFDs, Instrumentation and Controls, electrical equipment, motors, motor control centers, switch gears, lighting circuits and fixtures, running conduit, and wiring all types of new electrical/controls installations.
  • Coordinating all assignments with the appropriate people to ensure safety, environmental, quality, and production needs are met and exceeded.
  • Repairing, replacing, and installing sensors, actuators, transformers, controllers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, electric eyes, conduit systems, switches, and defective wiring.
  • Disassembling, inspecting, reassembling, troubleshooting, repairing, and replacing malfunctioning parts or equipment (motors, switches, sensors, input/output boards, controllers, servos, gears, sprockets, chains, knives, etc.) using test equipment.
  • Troubleshooting and repairing a diverse range of electrical equipment throughout the mill (e.g., Instrumentation circuits, motor control circuits up to 13.8 kilovolts, low and medium voltage drives, monitoring analyzers).
  • Working closely with operations, supervision, and peers.
  • Reading and interpreting technical manuals, electrical schematics, blueprints, one lines, and loop drawings.
  • Writing, editing, and using SOPs, Lockout Tagout procedures, and making recommendations for modifying PM job plans throughout the facility.
  • Striving to improve the reliability of plant equipment through better uses of technology and precision work practices.
  • Being available at any time requested to assist in the response to emergencies, assist with investigations, electrical failures, damage to property, fire losses, etc.
  • Acting as a safety leader with solid safety behaviors and demonstrated leadership while working with others to achieve the site safety plan’s goal of being a zero-injury workplace; knowledge and understanding of the 10 Life Saving Rules.
  • Performing basic troubleshooting of Motor Control Centers, switch gears, thermal overloads, and motor starters.
  • Maintaining and installing electrical equipment.
  • Assisting with the planning, prioritizing, and scheduling of electrical maintenance with input from supervision based on operational need.
  • Following work order instructions, acquiring and returning spare parts using plant CMMS systems, and providing written and verbal comments and feedback after any work is performed.
  • Performing other related projects and assignments as business dictates.
