About The Position

As an Industrial Technician at EMR, you’ll play a key role in our daily operations at our New Orleans, LA site. In this role, you’ll be responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems and equipment within a high-volume metal recycling facility. This role ensures all electrical components—including shredders, conveyors, balers, and sorting systems—operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program or technical training in electrical systems.
  • Licensed Electrician (Journeyman or Master preferred, depending on state requirements).
  • Minimum 3–5 years of industrial electrical experience (heavy industry or recycling environment preferred).
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems up to 480V or higher.
  • Experience with PLC troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar preferred).
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and schematics.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in metal recycling, manufacturing, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems (for equipment troubleshooting).
  • Familiarity with automated sorting systems and sensor-based equipment.
  • Arc flash training and NFPA 70E certification.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems, machinery, and equipment used in metal recycling operations.
  • Troubleshoot electrical malfunctions in heavy industrial equipment such as shredders, conveyors, cranes, balers, and compactors.
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical components to minimize downtime.
  • Diagnose issues using electrical testing devices, including multimeters, oscilloscopes, and thermal imaging tools.
