About The Position

Industrial Electrician performs installation, alteration, maintenance, or service of electrical systems in complex three-phase industrial operations. Assists, completes, and/or leads crews responsible for performing a broad range of electrical tasks in accordance with National Electric Code (NEC) standards and electrical trade practices. The position deals with water, wastewater, reclaimed water treatment, pump/lift station equipment, and small systems such as switchgears, MCC’s, PLC’s, VFD’s, DSB’s, Lighting/Power Panels, UPS’s, Natural Gas Turbine Generators, and Motors ranging from ¼ - 1750HP. The candidate will be able to troubleshoot, field or bench, any of the above-listed equipment as well as perform preventative maintenance, repairs, or replacements. Candidates will be willing to work overtime as needed, must understand that participation in a 24/7 afterhours standby rotation program and disaster recovery is required after successful completion of probation. Requirements

• Knowledge of the current National Electrical Codes and Regulations (NEC).
• Knowledge of advanced tools, equipment, and testing devices of the electrical trade to include their proper/required maintenance.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade, including those associated with AC and DC circuits.
• Knowledge of required electrical maintenance and repair of electrical operating equipment and control systems.
• Knowledge of advanced troubleshooting methods and repair/diagnostics of multiple and various electronic systems.
• Knowledge of testing, calibration, and program breaker trip settings and functions.
• Knowledge of computer systems and basic programs used to perform mathematical calculations revolving around requirements based in the NEC.
• Knowledge of Automatic Transfer Switches operation as well as Main-Tie-Main switchgear operations in all facets of operations.
• Knowledge of electrical wiring and splicing techniques.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Ability to serve as the lead employee as directed on project teams assigned to a given assignment.
• Ability and willingness to respond to emergency situations such as floods, hurricanes, tornadoes and other natural and/or unnatural crises to provide for public health and safety.
• Ability and willingness to work overtime, rotating shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.
• Ability to pass medical testing and to wear various types of respiratory protection deemed necessary for the environment being worked in for the protection of the employee.
• Employee is expected to be able to work in and around confined spaces such as wet wells, vaults, manholes, trench boxes, tanks, and in areas of height using ladders, man-lifts of any kind, on top of buildings or tanks/structures wearing a harness and protective gear and/or in environments where toxic or chemical fumes not natural to the atmosphere exist while wearing protective respiratory equipment, as necessary.
• May require shift work which will be include working nights, weekends, and holidays as well as working extended hours during times of emergency.
• Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• An associate degree in Electrical Engineering; AND Two (2) years of experience as a Commercial or Industrial Electrician or Electrical Equipment Repairer with specific experience working on AC/DC motors, generators, voltage regulators, transformers, and power control panels; OR An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted above; AND Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License; AND May require the possession of a First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certifications.
• An associate degree in Electrical Engineering; AND Six (6) years of experience as an electrician maintaining electric power-controlling equipment and/or distribution lines of at least 600V; including One year of experience as a supervisor; OR An Electrical Journeyman Certificate of Competency/License issued from any jurisdiction throughout the State of Florida, OR Completion of a Commercial/Industrial Electrician certification or training program recognized by the Florida Department of Education/Department of Labor and Employment Security; AND Four years of field experience; including One year of experience leading/directing small groups, overseeing special projects, and troubleshooting; AND Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain any licensing requirements or certifications that may be required by the state of Florida or department, including those necessary to work on or around equipment of at least 600V as needed; OR An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-specific competencies noted above; AND Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License; AND May require the possession of a First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certifications.

Nice To Haves

• Journeyman Electrical license issued in the State of Florida
• Prior experience in field working with voltages ranging from 12V DC to 13.8kV
• Basic computer skills with standard software such as Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.
• Knowledge of a computer operated work management system; equipment in relation to the Water, Wastewater, and Reclaim industry.

Responsibilities

• Performs installation, alteration, maintenance, or service of electrical systems in complex three-phase industrial operations.
• Assists, completes, and/or leads crews responsible for performing a broad range of electrical tasks in accordance with National Electric Code (NEC) standards and electrical trade practices.
• Assists in and/or completes installation, maintenance, or repair of Industrial Electrical Systems rated up to 600 volts or more depending on functional working level.
• Recommends electrical system requirements for facilities and conducts technical inspections on new installations of electrical systems, modifications of existing equipment, motors, and related electrically operated apparatus.
• Determines routing, location, and method of installing industrial wiring, conduit, equipment, fixtures, and accessories from complex industrial drawings, wiring diagrams, ladder logic, blueprints, and sketches.
• Tests, calibrates, and programs breaker trip settings and functions.
• Installs, maintains, and troubleshoots operations of PLC systems.
• Performs scheduled inspections and reviews of all electrical panels, performs proper preventative maintenance on all associated electrical equipment, and upgrades electrical equipment.
• Identifies and documents all electrical enclosures and equipment within facilities and maintains accurate labeling in all panels, motor control centers (MCC’s), junction boxes, and switch gear.
• Ensures electrical safety of all associates and that equipment is in proper working order.
• Installs proper safety signage and locks on or near all electrical equipment that is not in working order.
• Prepares work schedules and coordinates maintenance schedules with integrated teams as well as prepares technical reports of electrical operational issues.
• Performs the calculations involved in the operation of sizing Industrial Electrical Services, Transformers, UPS Units, Panels, Breakers, Box and Conduit Fill and Wire Sizes.
• May also oversee and consult with outside electrical and construction contractors to assure compliance within NEC and Hillsborough County specifications, rules, policies, and regulations.
• May be required to assume responsibility of controlling electrical emergencies.
• Directs and/or oversees the work of other subordinate employees; provides instruction, guidance, and training as required.
• In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee’s department, the County’s Office of Emergency Management, or County Administration. Such assignments may be for before, during or after the emergency/disaster.

• Salary Hiring Range (annual) $47,507– $90,646
