About The Position

The Industrial Electrician installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains electrical power, control, and production-equipment systems across manufacturing departments. The role independently addresses routine and complex electrical failures, supports preventive maintenance and equipment reliability, and documents work in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). The electrician works under the direction of the Maintenance Lead and Maintenance Manager and escalates engineering, programming, utility, or specialized OEM issues when additional expertise or authorization is needed. The position supports a range of industrial equipment, including CNC machining centers and lathes, hydraulic forming presses, press brakes, welding and fabrication equipment, air compressors and dryers, pumps, chillers, and auxiliary systems. It also supports equipment installation, relocation, startup, shutdown, commissioning, and safe return to production. PLC programming and advanced troubleshooting are not required; complex or specialized controls issues may be escalated to the Level III Lead, engineering, or qualified outside service providers. This is an on-site position at the El Cajon, California location, scheduled four days per week, Tuesday through Friday, from 5:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Work takes place around energized systems when authorized, operating machinery, hydraulic pressure, noise, vibration, oils, coolants, welding operations, sharp edges, and other conditions typical of an aerospace manufacturing plant. Required PPE must be worn. The position requires access to ITAR-controlled information or technology; applicants must be U.S. persons as defined by ITAR. The expected pay range is $33–$40 per hour. Compensation may vary based on qualifications, skills, experience, competencies, and geographic location. Some roles may qualify for additional incentives such as equity, commissions, or other variable performance-related bonuses; further details are provided during the interview process.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of industrial electrical experience in a manufacturing environment, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant experience and demonstrated capability.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain 480-volt three-phase power, industrial motor-control, and machine-control systems.
  • Working knowledge of electrical codes and industrial wiring methods, CNC and production equipment support, electrical schematics and ladder diagrams, preventive maintenance practices, and safe use of electrical test equipment.
  • Ability to organize work, communicate clearly, document maintenance activities accurately, and work effectively with limited supervision.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand instructions, procedures, safety information, drawings, and technical documentation in English.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds; stand and walk for extended periods; bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb ladders, work at elevated locations, use electrical hand and power tools, distinguish wiring and device markings, and access machinery, panels, and electrical equipment for inspection and repair.
  • Must be a U.S. person within the meaning of ITAR: a U.S. citizen or national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or person granted asylum.
  • Must follow required safety procedures and wear required PPE.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED; education is preferred but not required when equivalent experience and capability are demonstrated.
  • Trade-school, apprenticeship, or certificate training in industrial electricity, electrical technology, mechatronics, or a related field.
  • PLC and industrial-network diagnostic experience.
  • CNC controls experience.
  • Thermography experience.
  • Aerospace manufacturing experience.
  • General mechanical or facilities knowledge.
  • Applicable electrician certification, license, or documented qualified-electrical-worker training where required by the work performed.
  • PLC programming or advanced troubleshooting experience.

Responsibilities

  • Install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial electrical distribution, branch circuits, machine power, motor controls, control panels, lighting, transformers, disconnects, and related equipment.
  • Support CNC machining centers and lathes, hydraulic forming presses, press brakes, welding and fabrication equipment, air compressors and dryers, pumps, chillers, and auxiliary systems.
  • Diagnose electrical and control failures using safe troubleshooting methods, schematics, ladder diagrams, technical manuals, machine history, and appropriate test instruments.
  • Respond to electrical work orders and equipment breakdowns, isolate faults, complete authorized repairs, restore equipment safely, and communicate status and next steps.
  • Perform assigned preventive and predictive electrical maintenance, including inspections, cleaning, condition checks when assigned, connection verification, component replacement, and functional testing.
  • Install and terminate conduit, raceway, cable, wire, junction boxes, enclosures, disconnects, devices, and control components.
  • Complete electrical modifications and equipment connections from approved drawings, specifications, and direction; identify field conflicts and obtain approval before deviating from authorized scope.
  • Record labor, failure, repair, parts, readings, and follow-up information accurately in the CMMS.
  • Identify recurring failures and recommend electrical preventive-maintenance or reliability improvements.
  • Verify phase rotation, voltage, current, grounding, control operation, safety interlocks, guarding, and equipment function before returning equipment to service.
  • Maintain electrical tools, meters, test equipment, work areas, and spare parts; support 5S and housekeeping standards.
  • Coordinate with production, maintenance, engineering, EHS, vendors, utilities, inspectors, and outside electrical or OEM service providers.
  • Safely troubleshoot and repair 480-volt three-phase and lower-voltage systems, motors, starters, contactors, overloads, relays, control transformers, power supplies, fuses, circuit protection, and control circuits.
  • Diagnose VFD, soft starter, sensor, proximity switch, limit switch, solenoid, encoder, interlock, and machine-control faults; interpret electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, ladder logic, and wiring diagrams.
  • Use multimeters, clamp meters, insulation-resistance testers, phase-rotation meters, and other diagnostic instruments safely and within their ratings.
  • Perform basic PLC input and output diagnostics and fault isolation when qualified.
  • Apply grounding, bonding, overcurrent protection, conductor sizing, labeling, enclosure, and installation practices in accordance with applicable codes, standards, permits, and company requirements.
  • Troubleshoot electrical interfaces associated with hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, including motors, pumps, solenoids, pressure switches, transducers, valves, sensors, and control circuits.
  • Support safe equipment installation, relocation, startup, shutdown, and commissioning, including power verification, control checks, and documentation updates.
  • Work with maintenance technicians to distinguish electrical faults from mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, process, or programming problems and coordinate the appropriate repair response.
  • Provide practical electrical guidance to the maintenance apprentice when assigned, without assuming formal supervisory authority.
  • Troubleshoot CNC machine alarms and electrical faults involving power supplies, control transformers, contactors, relays, circuit protection, switches, sensors, interlocks, coolant and lubrication controls, motors, pumps, and chillers.
  • Diagnose servo, spindle, encoder, drive, and CNC-control symptoms to the practical component or system level; escalate specialized issues as appropriate.
  • Support safe machine recovery and verify electrical and safety-system operation before production release.
  • Follow safety rules, EHS procedures, lockout/tagout requirements, electrical safe-work practices, shock and arc-flash boundaries, PPE requirements, machine-guarding standards, and safe lifting procedures.
  • Establish an electrically safe work condition when required; perform energized diagnostic work only when authorized, justified, qualified, and using required risk controls and PPE.
