About The Position

The Industrial Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical systems in a production environment. This role requires a strong understanding of industrial electrical safety standards, the National Electrical Code (NEC), and experience with various electrical components such as motor controls, VFDs, PLCs, and control systems. The electrician will work to minimize downtime by diagnosing and repairing faults, performing preventive maintenance, and responding to emergency calls. This position requires the ability to work independently, interpret schematics, and maintain accurate records. The role involves working in mill and maintenance shop environments with exposure to various conditions and requires the use of personal protective equipment.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required.
Valid electrician certification or license as required by Louisiana state and/or local regulations, or ability to obtain certification.
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as an industrial electrician, preferably in a sawmill, lumber, or heavy manufacturing environment.
Strong working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and industrial electrical safety standards, including NFPA 70E.
Experience troubleshooting and repairing motor controls, VFDs, PLCs, and industrial control systems.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
Working knowledge of lockout/tagout and arc flash safety procedures.
Ability to work independently and cover a full shift's electrical needs without direct supervision.
Ability to work rotating shifts, overtime, and be available on call for emergency repairs.

Nice To Haves

Completion of a formal electrical apprenticeship, trade school program, or equivalent training.
Journeyman or Master Electrician license.
Experience with sawmill-specific equipment and control systems.
PLC programming experience (e.g., Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens).
Experience with medium-voltage industrial electrical systems.

Responsibilities

Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, including motor controls, power distribution panels, transformers, and switchgear.
Diagnose and repair electrical faults on production equipment, including PLCs, variable frequency drives (VFDs), sensors, and control circuits, to minimize downtime.
Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and equipment manuals to guide installation, troubleshooting, and repair work.
Perform preventive maintenance on electrical systems and equipment according to PDL's maintenance schedule.
Install and maintain conduit, wiring, and electrical distribution systems in compliance with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and applicable regulations.
Troubleshoot and adjust PLCs and automated control systems as needed, coordinating with controls specialists or OEM support on complex programming.
Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns and emergency calls to minimize production downtime.
Maintain accurate electrical maintenance records, including work orders, parts used, and equipment history.
Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager and production supervisors to schedule electrical work with minimal disruption to production.
Follow all lockout/tagout (LOTO) and electrical safety procedures, including arc flash safety (NFPA 70E), when servicing equipment.
Independently cover the electrical needs of an assigned shift without requiring direct supervision or backup.
Mentor and provide guidance to maintenance technicians and electricians in training as needed.
Perform other electrical and maintenance duties as assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
