Industrial Designer / Millwork CAD Designer
About The Position
Studio Displays is seeking an Industrial Designer / Millwork CAD Designer to support the design, detailing, and engineering of custom interior environments. This role is responsible for translating creative concepts into fabrication-ready drawings and 3D models for custom millwork, architectural features, branded environments, and permanent interior installations. The ideal candidate combines strong design sensibility with practical knowledge of drafting, fabrication methods, and production processes. This role works closely with project management, fabrication, and installation teams to ensure designs are functional, manufacturable, and installation-ready.
Requirements
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design, Architectural Technology, Drafting/CAD Technology, Interior Design, Or related field
- Proficiency in Rhinoceros 3D
- Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar CAD software
- Ability to interpret and create technical drawings and shop documentation
- Strong understanding of drafting standards and dimensioning practices
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Strong problem-solving and communication abilities
Nice To Haves
- Experience in custom millwork, exhibit fabrication, retail environments, or architectural interiors
- Familiarity with CNC fabrication processes
- Familiarity with Woodworking and joinery methods
- Familiarity with Lighting integration
- Familiarity with Production workflows
- Experience with SolidWorks
- Experience with SketchUp
- Experience with Revit
- Understanding of fabrication tolerances and installation sequencing
Responsibilities
- Develop detailed CAD drawings and 3D models for custom interior and millwork projects
- Create fabrication-ready shop drawings including: Plans, Elevations, Sections, Connection and assembly details
- Assist in designing: Wall panel systems, Custom cabinetry and desks, Architectural millwork, Integrated lighting features, Branded interior elements
- Translate conceptual sketches and renderings into production-ready documentation
- Coordinate with fabrication teams to ensure constructability and production efficiency
- Support material selection and detailing for wood, laminate, metal, acrylic, and integrated components
- Create accurate material takeoff for purchasing and fabrication.
- Participate in project reviews, mock-ups, and prototype evaluations
- Revise drawings and models based on field measurements, production feedback, and client revisions
- Maintain organized drawing files and revision control throughout project lifecycle
- Assist with installation detailing and field coordination as needed
