About The Position

Formlabs is seeking an Industrial Design Intern for the Fall 2026 term. This internship focuses on designing the tools that enable users to bring their ideas to life through 3D printing technology. The Industrial Design team aims to create accessible and productive user experiences and communicate brand values through hardware design. Interns will collaborate with a diverse team of designers, engineers, and scientists to impact a rapidly emerging class of products. The ideal candidate is passionate about user experiences and possesses the skills to contribute to the team.

Requirements

Pursuing a university degree in Industrial Design (related design or engineering degrees considered)
Demonstrate fluency in aesthetic decision making and an eye for detail
Able to communicate quickly and effectively with hand sketches
Capable in 3D CAD, Keyshot, and Adobe CC
Comfortable prototyping using a variety of methods
Experience with engineering and manufacturability constraints

Responsibilities

Help design new products from idea to production
Develop design concepts, with clear and compelling visual communication
Prototype continuously, from quick mockups to refined cosmetic models
Test designs with users, translate results back into the design process
Help refine the hardware user experience, from unboxing to maintenance
Create high quality CAD to communicate design intent
Collaborate closely with Product, UI Design, Engineering, Manufacturing to develop well-balanced solutions
Assist with cosmetic specification and validation
