About The Position

Join PACIV and help deliver innovative automation solutions for utilities and advanced manufacturing clients. We are looking for an Industrial Automation & Controls Engineer to join our Indianapolis, IN team to support PLC, HMI, and SCADA projects for utility and advanced manufacturing clients. This role offers hands-on experience across the full automation project lifecycle, exposure to multiple control platforms, and opportunities to develop technical expertise while working alongside experienced automation professionals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering; Electrical, Mechatronics, Chemical, Biomedical, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years hands-on experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, or related field.
  • Experience working with PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical and automation systems.
  • Experience reading electrical schematics, control drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Electrical or similar electrical design software.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to industrial networking protocols such as EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profinet, Profibus, or BACnet.
  • Experience supporting automation projects in utilities, life sciences, or manufacturing environments.
  • Familiarity with DCS platforms.
  • Knowledge of electrical safety practices and industry standards such as NFPA 70E or UL 508A.

Responsibilities

  • Support automation projects from design through commissioning while working alongside engineers, project managers, and clients.
  • Support the design, development, and implementation of PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
  • Develop and modify PLC programs and configure HMI and SCADA platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Ignition, or Wonderware.
  • Assist with control system design, documentation, and industrial networking.
  • Create and update electrical control schematics using AutoCAD Electrical.
  • Support control panel fabrication, field installation, system testing, and startup activities.
  • Troubleshoot automation systems and help identify opportunities for system improvements.
  • Collaborate with clients, project managers, and engineering teams throughout project execution.
  • Follow safety, quality, and regulatory requirements on assigned projects.
  • Participate in commissioning and validation activities at customer sites as needed.
