About The Position

Industrial Automation Controls Engineer (PLC/HMI Integration) Location: Danbury, CT Employment Type: Full-Time A day in the life Morning stand-up with mechanical, electrical, and project engineering teammates. You review a new custom machine concept, sketch control narratives, and outline functional specifications. By midday you are programming PLC logic, mapping I/O between drives, HMIs, and field devices, and refining an HMI screen for diagnostics. Afternoon brings debugging on a panel you helped design, commissioning a VFD, and preparing for an upcoming FAT. You wrap by updating schematics and revision notes, ensuring everything is ready for a seamless SAT and customer startup. Role overview Join our client's engineering team in an industrial machinery manufacturing environment. You will design, program, integrate, and commission control systems for custom equipment, delivering reliable, high-performance automation to customers across diverse industrial markets.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in PLC programming and industrial controls
  • Background designing and programming control systems for industrial machinery
  • Hands-on experience with Allen-Bradley Rockwell, Siemens, or similar PLCs
  • HMI development using FactoryTalk, WinCC, or comparable platforms
  • Knowledge of VFD setup and motor control integration
  • Ability to read and create electrical schematics and loop drawings
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with system integration and commissioning

Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop control systems for industrial machinery and automated equipment
  • Program PLCs on Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent platforms
  • Create and configure HMI applications for operator interface and diagnostics
  • Configure and commission VFDs and motor control systems
  • Produce and review electrical schematics, loop drawings, and panel layouts
  • Perform I O mapping and integrate PLCs, HMIs, drives, and field devices
  • Author control narratives and functional specifications
  • Execute testing, debugging, and troubleshooting during build and commissioning
  • Support factory acceptance testing FAT and site acceptance testing SAT
  • Collaborate closely with mechanical, electrical, and project engineering teams
  • Provide on-site technical support for installation and startup some travel may be required
  • Maintain complete control system documentation and manage revisions
