The Injury Prevention Specialist provides athletic training, prevention and wellness services to clients, employees, and other patients under the direction of the Medical Director, Occupational Medicine physician or by written referral from a physician, and in accordance with state athletic training practice act. Primary role includes injury prevention techniques, job hazard analysis, ergonomic assessments, and first aid on job site or via Video Visits. Meets the professional, clinical, technical, communication and documentation requirements and standards and to make decisions based on established guidelines. The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited, professional athletic training education program required.
  • Active Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Athletic Training License required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree is Preferred.
  • Experience in industrial or occupational setting is preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish language preferred.
  • Experience in the industrial, occupational setting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains appropriate general treatment orders and operating procedures to be reviewed annually and approved by the designated, Medical Director, or physician.
  • Operate under OSHA compliance as well as policy and procedure of the client’s site.
  • Provides pertinent healthcare-related information of the injured client employee, in a clear, concise professional manner to the appropriate Occupational Medicine support staff and administration
  • Provide injury prevention services for client companies as it relates to first aid, early intervention, or education to prevent worksite injuries. Act as a liaison between client companies including management, union leaders, executives and employees and the Occupational Medicine Department Leadership.
  • Provide ergonomic services, including but not limited to job hazard analysis, solution development and implementation, and ergonomic/body mechanics training.
  • Maintain accurate records of all employee encounters and report such incidents to the client company and St. Luke’s Occupational Medicine Department as appropriate.
  • Communicates effectively between program stakeholders, client site and corresponding St. Luke’s clinic personnel.
  • Ensures that services are provided in a timely, accurate, effective, and cost-efficient manner and in compliance with established policies, procedures and practices.
  • Assists Occupational Medicine Prevention and Wellness Manager, Network Director and Medical Director in evaluating program effectiveness and provide any program updates in a timely manner.
  • Aggregate site data and articulate program return on investment to stakeholders.
  • Injury Prevention Specialists working in an office setting shall have a plan of care or written protocol as required by their respective licensing board (PA or NJ).
  • Takes responsibility to understand and complete professional and technical requirements and provide St. Luke’s University Health Network with the necessary documentation on such requirements. (I.e., BOC® Continuing Education reporting and renewal, Bi-annual state certification renewal, annual CPR recertification.)
  • Other related duties as assigned.
