About The Indiana Department of Revenue (DOR): The Indiana Department of Revenue team is comprised of over 700 staff that are located in 13 locations across the state of Indiana. We work collaboratively with the Indiana Governor's office, the General Assembly, state agencies, individuals, business owners, corporations, tax practitioners, and a variety of tax program participants to administer Indiana's tax laws. DOR administers over 65 tax types and annually processes nearly $21 billion of tax revenue. Our mission is to serve Indiana by administering tax laws in a fair, secure, and efficient manner.

Requirements

  • Six (6) years experience as a Revenue Tax Auditor with the Indiana Department of Revenue.
  • Advanced knowledge of the computer programs and applications.
  • Broad knowledge of accounting principles and auditing standards and procedures.
  • Thorough knowledge of statutes, regulations, and case law pertinent to tax compliance.
  • Ability to generate data requests and to extract, evaluate and use information from a variety of business records.
  • Ability to effectively interview and solicit pertinent information from taxpayers and their representatives, some of whom may be uncooperative or hostile.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, taxpayers, their representatives, and others involved in the audit process.
  • Ability to travel extensively in the performance of assigned audits.
  • Through knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective supervision and training.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, or related field with at least 6 years experience as a Revenue Tax Auditor with the Indiana Department of Revenue.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of the Individual Tax Compliance and Business Tax Compliance Departments through area supervisors.
  • Manage auditor (direct report) for independent review of quality of returns processed and actions taken by the area.
  • Focus on workflow and inventory thresholds of all discoveries and manage to predetermined SLA's.
  • Analyze results of area's past performance and create business rules that will maximize department tax recoveries while minimizing taxpayer frustration.
  • Utilize these reviews for process efficiencies and improvements.
  • Focus on process improvements and project implementations.
  • Update forms and review impact of legislative annual changes.
  • Gather and analyze metrics for management reporting, process improvements, team management, and creating priorities
  • Manage, organize, and analyze data for various ad hoc projects based on Team needs.
  • Collaborate with HR to restructure and create positions based on needs of the department.
  • Communicate with business area leaders to deliver results.
  • Coordinate website content with process improvements to encourage taxpayer self-serve to relieve Customer Service resource constraints.
  • Analyze analyst performance and oversee appropriate training to provide constant improvement of analyst decisions.
