About The Position

This position will help to support all areas of work on the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area. The goal will be to introduce the participants to areas like developed recreation, OHV, trails, Interpretation, and wildlife. Participants will join our crews in very laborious work out on the dunes as well as work to engage the public in education. The goal of this position is to provide an overview of what careers are possible in the Forest Service.

Requirements

  • Communication and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to learn new things and participate in the crew's objectives.
  • Participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger.
  • Participants must be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States.
  • Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.
  • A personal vehicle is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Handtool/powertool experience.
  • Public interfacing experience.

Responsibilities

  • Developed Recreation, OHV, Trails, and Wildlife duties requiring hard work to provide experience in multiple career fields within the Forest Service.
  • Use of basic hand tools and power tools, with potential for specialized equipment like Chainsaw, skidsteer, and tractor with training provided.
  • Tasks may include building fences, brushing trails and campgrounds, painting, educating visitors, maintaining facilities, marking trails, and building retaining walls.
  • Assist the Wildlife Bio in repairing snowy plover closures, conducting surveys for certain species, and educating the public about threatened species.
  • Be public facing, engaging with the public daily, and assisting at events to educate people about the Oregon Dunes, its rules, and interesting aspects.
  • Facility cleanup, dumpsite/homeless cleanups, and assisting with the Ranger District front desk.
