About The Position

The Cadillac/Manistee Ranger District is recruiting Student Conservation Association members to work alongside the district’s botany staff on the Huron-Manistee National Forests. The Forest is located in the northwest portion of the lower peninsula. Members will control 20+ species of invasive plants using a variety of techniques in diverse habitats. They will gain experience with GIS, Avenza, Survey123, and become State of Michigan Pesticide Applicators. Members will also have opportunities to work with other program areas and participate in plant, turtle, butterfly, snake, and piping plover surveys.

Requirements

  • Drivers license
  • ability to work outside
  • ability to hike to treatment sites
  • willingness to do actual on-the-ground, get your hands dirty, meaningful, physical work
  • All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger.
  • Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States.
  • Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.
