About The Position

The Education program takes Kindergarten through 8th grade students from local public schools into the National Parks in their communities for hands-on, place-based field trips tied to the Utah science and social studies core standards. Teaching occurs in area schools and in the outdoor classrooms of Arches National Park and the Island in the Sky District of Canyonlands National Park. Individual Placements educate all students while particularly helping improve the educational experience in the National Parks for Spanish-speaking students through translation and general communication. The position also helps strengthen relationships in the local community. Participants take part in community events representing the National Park Service and may develop and organize events that bring community groups into the park. The position is hosted by Arches National Park in Moab, Utah, and runs January 11, 2027 through April 9, 2027. It is 40 hours per week. Work is primarily in a front-country setting where emergency services may be delayed by one to two hours; public transportation is limited or unavailable, and cell phone reception may be limited or unavailable. The role involves regular interaction with the public and requires driving a motor vehicle for the partner agency. Housing is provided in a shared park apartment or house with a private bedroom. Basic kitchen dishware, cookware, and utensils are provided; participants supply their own bedding, towels, toiletries, and other personal items. Washer/dryer and workout facilities are available. Compensation includes a one-time $1,100 round-trip travel allowance, a $600 weekly living allowance, and housing provided by NPS. Participants may optionally be eligible for an AmeriCorps education award valued at $1,956.35 upon successful completion of the service term and at least 450 service hours. Allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes. Additional benefits include defensive driving training, interpretive skills, and First Aid/CPR.
