Ready to make an impact: Position Summary: Under the direction of the Supervisor, Indigenous Child and Family Centre, the Indigenous Child and Youth Care Worker will ensure that each family participating in child and family programs is supported in fostering their child's development; assisting these families to identify and attain their individual and personal goals and supporting their success in building and sustaining healthy connections within their community; ensuring accessibility and integration of individual and family services within the Indigenous Child and Family Centre and Early Years Programs.

Requirements

Post-secondary education in Child and Youth Work/Child and Youth Care
Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience working with Indigenous children and youth will be considered
Lived experiences as an Indigenous person with the ability to transfer traditional knowledge and teachings, respecting the unique Cultural distinctions and variations found throughout Turtle Island.
Strong understanding and practice of Indigenous approaches to healing, including land-based practices and Cultural knowledge.
Understanding of the unique dynamics that exist within the First Nations, Inuit, and Metis cultures.
Knowledge of social risk factors in relation to high-priority neighborhoods and the Urban Indigenous community.
Knowledge and skills in the delivery of group programs and workshops
Excellent organizational, oral/verbal/written communication skills; initiative and respect for confidentiality.
Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, to maintain effective communication and working relationships.
Pass a vulnerable sector police records check
This position requires the ability to work evenings and some weekends

Responsibilities

Have the overall responsibility to provide direct service to Indigenous children and youth experiencing problems that prohibit them from reaching their full potential.
Provide support to frontline staff at the Youth Departments/Indigenous Child and Family Centres and assist with the general delivery of drop-in services and programs.
Provide referrals to resources pertinent to the needs of indigenous youth including cultural supports.
Develop and implement life and social skills and cultural workshops for 7-29 years of age.
Develop community resources related to the bask needs of homeless and at-risk Indigenous youth.
Ensure a full range of options are available to youth who are ready to take tangible steps towards achieving their potential.
Provide supportive services and group activities (circles) to youth in need of individual support such as crisis intervention, dispute resolution, and other supportive intervention.
Participate in activities and oversee the smooth running of the drop-in programming and maintain accurate and up-to-date written reports as requested.
Maintain relationships with internal and external resources, partnerships with community groups.
Outreach activities include cultural community events, visiting schools and other social service agencies.
Work collaboratively with the children, youth, families and other stakeholders in the community to develop service delivery plans that ensure access to services and opportunities for healthy development.
Work collaboratively between services and teams at our East and West locations.
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
