About The Position

This role focuses on helping individuals experiencing homelessness reclaim their lives by providing a hand up, offering opportunities for health and self-sufficiency, and restoring hope and dignity. The Independent Living Specialist will work with clients to address their varied needs, including securing entitlements, gainful employment, and housing. The position emphasizes a client-centered approach, building clients' daily living skills to ensure successful independent living, and managing challenging behaviors with self-awareness while prioritizing client autonomy and safety.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word and Excel.
  • CPR training certification or willingness to complete certification training in CPR.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • Bilingual abilities a plus.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness preferred.
  • Experience with conducting outreach, securing entitlements and housing.
  • Knowledge of mental illness and substance abuse helpful.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all aspects of assigned caseload, including meeting with clients regularly.
  • Ensure all clinical files and reports are complete and up to date.
  • Engage individuals in a client-centered approach.
  • Provide services and referrals to address the varied needs of individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Assist clients in securing entitlements, gainful employment, and housing.
  • Manage conflict or challenging behaviors with self-awareness, emphasizing client autonomy and safety.
  • Help build clients' daily living skills to ensure successful independent living.
  • Complete intakes, assessments, and all required documentation, including psychosocials, progress notes, and treatment plans.
  • Escort clients to various appointments as needed.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and case conferences.
  • Provide emergency first aid/CPR assistance when needed.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
