We are seeking a reliable, patient, and attentive Independent Living Services (ILS) Instructor to provide one-on-one afternoon support on Tuesdays for an individual with Mild Intellectual Disability and Epilepsy. Services will focus on increasing independence in daily living skills, community navigation, and household responsibilities while ensuring safety and accessibility. The ideal candidate is adaptable, observant, and comfortable supporting an individual with visual impairment. The primary goals of support include improving personal hygiene and self-care routines, supporting safe and confident community navigation, assisting with household chores and organization, and developing meal preparation and meal planning skills. The role involves providing guidance and support with personal hygiene routines, encouraging independence, and helping establish consistent daily routines. Assistance will be provided with cleaning, organizing, and maintaining the home, with tasks broken into manageable steps and adapted for visual impairment. Support will also be given in planning simple, nutritious meals, assisting with safe meal preparation and kitchen navigation, and adapting cooking tasks for accessibility and safety. Community navigation assistance includes guidance and supervision during outings, helping with safe navigation of environments, and offering orientation support and mobility assistance. The individual’s visual impairment may present unique challenges including navigation and safety requiring additional guidance, orientation support, mobility assistance, or adaptive strategies/technology. Communication and accessibility tasks involving written or visual information may require adaptation, such as reading mail, organizing household items, or supporting voice-activated technology. Adapted training needs may require additional preparation to ensure effective, safe, and respectful services. Challenges related to location may include limited staff availability in remote or underserved areas and potential transportation barriers due to limited public transportation or difficult accessibility to the home. The ideal candidate will have experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, epilepsy, or visual impairment, possess strong communication, observation, and problem-solving skills, be patient, dependable, and adaptable, comfortable providing hands-on support while promoting independence, and able to work independently during scheduled afternoon hours. The work environment is one-on-one support in home and community settings with a Tuesday-only afternoon schedule, in a structured, supportive, and safety-focused role.
