Independent Lean Implementation Consultant (Manufacturing) – North America

Competitive Capabilities International Inc•Ontario, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

CCi is seeking an experienced, English-speaking independent Lean Consultant to help manufacturers improve performance quickly and sustain their gains. Engagements often begin with a Rapid Deployment phase: analyzing site-level losses and waste, identifying and prioritizing improvement opportunities, and coaching site teams to deliver focused projects through a clear governance cadence. The work also introduces operational excellence concepts that prepare sites for longer-term TRACC programmes. The consultant works alongside manufacturing teams, building their capability to lead improvements rather than simply delivering solutions on their behalf. This is a client-facing, travel-based role performed through the consultant’s own registered business on a defined-deliverable basis. Site presence is typically 2–3 days per week, depending on the engagement; work away from client sites can be managed flexibly around engagement requirements and agreed deliverables. Engagement locations vary according to client needs.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of manufacturing operations experience, including hands-on continuous improvement responsibility.
  • Strong Lean manufacturing expertise, including approaches such as TPM, SMED, 5S, leader standard work, and root cause problem solving.
  • A strong track record of delivering improvement projects with measurable, financially validated, and sustainable results.
  • Fluent English and the credibility and communication skills to coach on the shop floor and engage senior management.
  • Comfortable travelling to client sites, typically 2–3 days per week.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
  • A qualification in Industrial, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Authorized to work in the country in which the consultant is engaged.

Nice To Haves

  • Industry experience, ideally in food and beverage, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, or FMCG.
  • Previous consulting or interim transformation experience.
  • Hands-on experience with loss trees, cost deployment, or similar loss-analysis approaches.
  • Experience working across different manufacturing sites, environments, or cultures.
  • Experience coaching teams through change and embedding new ways of working.

Responsibilities

  • Coach site teams to lead their own improvement projects and build their capability in Lean, TPM, and structured problem solving.
  • Conduct site-level loss and waste analyses, quantifying and costing losses in OEE, yield, waste, labour, and changeovers.
  • Help sites prioritize opportunities and develop scoped, chartered projects with clear owners, targets, and timelines.
  • Establish governance, including project reviews, steering meetings, action tracking, and benefits reporting.
  • Introduce operational excellence concepts such as daily management, leader standard work, and problem-solving routines.
  • Ensure benefits are validated and sustained, with standards in place before projects close.
  • Engage employees from operators through site leadership so clients take ownership of results.
  • Report progress against agreed engagement deliverables.

Benefits

  • Competitive day rate, plus agreed expenses.
  • Paid 4.5-day training programme in CCi’s methodology and tools in January 2027.
  • Exposure to international manufacturing clients and real operational challenges.
  • Opportunity to continue with clients into longer-term TRACC programmes, with further training and development in the methodology.
  • Opportunity to work with experienced manufacturing and operational excellence professionals while maintaining the flexibility of independent consulting.
