Independent Contractor - Materials Testing Project Representative
About The Position
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Material Testing Project Representative to support our construction projects in Mason County, West Virginia as an independent contractor (1099). This is a field-focused role that is central to the quality and success of our work, and a great fit for someone who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and wants the flexibility of contract-based work. As an independent contractor, you will operate as your own business entity, responsible for your own tax filings, insurance, and equipment. You will be engaged on a per-project or per-assignment basis, with compensation set out in your contractor agreement. You will provide your own means of transportation between project sites unless otherwise negotiated and will not be eligible for Thrasher's employee benefits programs.
Requirements
- Material testing experience highly desirable
- Safety certifications: OSHA 10, First Aid, and CPR certifications highly desirable
- Technical certifications: ACI or WVDOH testing certifications highly valuable
- Ability to provide proof of independent contractor status (e.g., business license, general liability insurance) as required by contract
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
Responsibilities
- Perform sampling and field testing on construction materials including concrete, asphalt, aggregate, and soil
- Interpret civil construction plans and specifications
- Adapt to varying project locations on a daily basis
- Communicate findings effectively through clear, accurate written reports
- Maintain current certification courses to continuously build skills and technical knowledge
- Accommodate periodic out-of-town project stays as needed
