About The Position

J. J. Keller & Associates, Inc. is seeking to add an Independent Contractor to our Workplace Safety Consulting practice who has subject matter expertise related to OSHA Construction Safety (29 CFR 1926), including hands-on construction safety experience and traffic control / flagger operations. This opportunity is for an Independent Contractor only and does not constitute an employment relationship. Independent Contractors must reside in the U. S. and be legally authorized to perform services within the United States. To be considered as an Independent Contractor, individuals must operate as an independent safety consulting business, provide services to multiple clients, supply their own tools and materials, be responsible for all taxes and expenses, provide their own computer and equipment, and maintain appropriate professional liability coverage. Travel requirements vary based on client engagements, audit needs, and training delivery, and are defined by project or statement of work. The role provides expert advice, safety consulting and educational services to J. J. Keller clients on construction safety and health matters through onsite engagements, off-site locations, and/or internet-based delivery methods. It also involves designing, developing, documenting, and maintaining training curriculum and instructional materials, conducting safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments related to various construction safety topics, monitoring relevant regulatory and compliance changes, and communicating updates and findings to clients.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in construction safety and health, with a strong focus on OSHA 29 CFR 1926.
  • Demonstrated expertise providing safety consulting, regulatory advisory, auditing, and training services to commercial or industrial clients related to traffic control plans, flagger operations, and roadway construction safety.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local construction safety regulations.
  • Ability to analyze field conditions, interpret regulatory requirements, and provide practical corrective guidance.
  • Proven history of providing independent safety consulting services within consulting and/or complex corporate environments.
  • Proficiency using business productivity tools (MS Office suite) necessary to deliver reports, presentations, and training materials.
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal, written and presentation
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with client representatives at all levels.
  • Maintains a high level of regulatory expertise.
  • Strong working knowledge of sales, marketing, and finance concepts related to operating an independent consulting practice.
  • Ability to legally operate a motor vehicle to perform required services.
  • Operate as an independent safety consulting business (e.g., sole proprietor, incorporated entity, or equivalent)
  • Provide services to multiple clients and maintain a non-exclusive consulting practice
  • Supply their own tools, methodologies, instructional materials, and business processes necessary to deliver services
  • Be responsible for all taxes, insurance, and business-related expenses
  • Provide their own computer, equipment, and tools necessary to perform services
  • Maintain appropriate professional liability coverage, as required under the contractual agreement
  • Reside in the U. S. and be legally authorized to perform services within the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Provides expert advice, safety consulting and educational services to J. J. Keller clients on construction safety and health matters through onsite engagements, off-site locations, and/or internet-based delivery methods in accordance with defined project scope.
  • Designs, develops, documents, and maintains training curriculum and instructional materials for general and client-specific applications.
  • Conducts safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments, based on applicable regulatory standards and client requirements related to excavation, fall protection, scaffolding, trenching, heavy equipment, electrical safety, and roadway work zones.
  • Monitors relevant regulatory and compliance applicable to the scope of service and incorporate changes into deliverables and training content as appropriate.
  • Communicates regulatory updates, recommendations, and findings to designated client contacts through reports, briefings, or presentations.
  • Provides advisory support to interpret regulatory requirements and practical application, without assuming responsibility for client compliance enforcement or ongoing operational oversight.
