About The Position

SunSource is seeking an Income Tax Manager to help strengthen and scale the Company’s tax function during a period of continued growth and increasing complexity. This role will primarily focus on state and local income tax matters, while also supporting federal income tax, international tax, tax accounting, M&A activity, and other special projects as needed. The Income Tax Manager will work closely with the Senior Tax Manager in a lean, high-impact environment. This position requires partnering with many different businesses that use a variety of ERP systems and is well suited for a tax professional with deep multistate tax experience, sound judgment, and a hands-on approach.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
• 6+ years of relevant corporate income tax experience required; deeper experience is welcome
• Significant state income/franchise tax experience required
• Strong knowledge of multistate corporate income tax concepts, including apportionment, nexus, and combined/unitary reporting
• Experience managing outsourced compliance processes and working with external tax service providers
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to work effectively in a decentralized, fast-paced environment

Nice To Haves

• CPA, MST, or similar credential preferred
• Familiarity with ASC 740 and the relationship between compliance and provision processes preferred
• Exposure to federal tax, M&A, intercompany matters, and transfer pricing preferred
• Public-company readiness experience is a plus

Responsibilities

• Lead the Company’s state corporate income and franchise tax activities across a large multi-entity, multi-jurisdiction footprint
• Maintain the Company’s state tax filing profile, including nexus, filing positions, state tax attributes, and jurisdictional presence
• Own and maintain state apportionment calculations across the enterprise
• Coordinate outsourced income tax compliance processes with external tax service providers, including data gathering, issue resolution, deadline management, and review of deliverables
• Manage state estimated payments, extensions, refund opportunities, and notice and audit responses
• Review tax workpapers, returns, and supporting schedules for accuracy, completeness, and consistency with Company facts and positions
• Support the quarterly and annual income tax provision process, including tax accounting and return-to-provision analysis
• Build strong relationships with finance and accounting personnel across the organization to improve tax data gathering, communication, and execution
• Develop a strong understanding of the Company’s legal entity structure, operating model, intercompany activity, and jurisdictional footprint
• Support tax matters related to acquisitions, legal entity integration, restructuring, intercompany arrangements, transfer pricing, and management fees
• Contribute to tax process improvement, documentation, internal controls, and support for public-company readiness initiatives
