About The Position

Federal Signal Corporation is seeking an Income Tax Analyst to join their team. This role will assist with the preparation of U.S. federal consolidated, state, and local income tax returns, estimated payments, extensions, annual reports, and related filings. The analyst will be responsible for gathering, organizing, reconciling, and analyzing accounting and tax data, preparing tax workpapers, and supporting quarterly and annual income tax provision processes. The position also involves assisting with fixed asset and tax depreciation analysis, state income tax compliance, tax audits, and tax research. Additionally, the role will involve coordinating with various internal and external stakeholders and participating in process improvement initiatives and automation projects within the tax department.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required – Accounting, Finance or related field
  • 0-4 years of tax, accounting, audit, finance, or relevant internship experience preferred
  • Foundational accounting knowledge and interest in corporate income tax, ASC 740, and state tax compliance
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills required
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across teams
  • Self-starter with a willingness to learn, ask questions, and take ownership of assigned tasks

Nice To Haves

  • CPA eligibility, CPA progress, or interest in a master’s in taxation preferred
  • experience with tax software, ERP systems, fixed asset systems, Alteryx, Power BI, or AI Automation tools is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical ability, organization, and follow-through

Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparation of U.S. federal consolidated, state, and local income tax returns, estimated payments, extensions, annual reports, and related filings.
  • Gather, organize, reconcile, and analyze accounting and tax data from general ledger, fixed asset, trial balance, and business unit sources.
  • Prepare and maintain tax workpapers, reconciliations, calendars, checklists, and supporting documentation.
  • Support quarterly and annual income tax provision processes, including book/tax differences, deferred tax schedules, return-to-provision items, and audit documentation.
  • Assist with fixed asset and tax depreciation analysis and related compliance schedules and calculations.
  • Support state income tax compliance, including apportionment, state modifications, payment tracking, and notices.
  • Assist with tax audits, notices, inquiries, and basic federal, state, and local tax research.
  • Coordinate with Tax, Accounting, business units, external advisors, and taxing authorities as needed.
  • Participate in process improvement, AI automation, data-quality, and other tax department projects.
  • Perform other duties, assignments and special projects as assigned.
