About The Position

The primary purpose of the position is to provide administrative and technical supervision of a Family and Children’s Medicaid Unit with a small staff of income maintenance caseworkers responsible for intake, processing, and review functions of determining and/or redetermining applicant/client eligibility for services in the federal and state Income Maintenance Program. Services provided under the Income Maintenance Program include, but are not necessarily limited to, Food and Nutrition Services (FNS), Medicaid, Crisis Intervention, Low Income Energy Assistance, and Child Care Subsidy. Employees are administratively and technically responsible for the work of income maintenance caseworkers and are responsible for supervising work involved in the intake, processing, and review functions for any of the services within the Economic Services Programs. Employee plans the short and some long-range work operations, priorities, and goals within the unit supervised. Employee provides leadership by modeling excellence and professionalism and through daily guidance, counseling, and support of unit staff. Employee assigns and balances workloads within the unit and coordinates overall workflow. Work requires employee to develop procedures and to make minor organizational changes and recommend other changes to improve efficiency. Employee is responsible for assessing and projecting staffing, equipment and supply needs, documenting appropriate justifications and submitting these requests in writing to the Income Maintenance Administrator or agency business officer. Employee provides on-the-job training as well as some training needs assessment and arrange for employees to attend workshops and other job-related training. Employee is responsible for ensuring that staff adheres to Local, State, and Federal standards with regard to the quality and timeliness of work required in processing economic services program cases. Employee ensures staff compliance with all rules, regulations, policy, and laws concerning the workplace. Employee has input and impact on setting internal agency standards. Employee gathers statistical data about performance within their unit, identifies trends, and prepares recommendations and reports using the analysis of the data collected. Employee uses a variety of data and reports from various sources in evaluating the overall performance of staff assigned to their unit. Employee may be responsible for conducting second party reviews through the random sampling and evaluation of ongoing cases processed by their staff. Employee counsels' staff regarding performance and grievance policies and may have the authority to issue oral and/or written warnings. Employee makes recommendations on dismissals to a higher-level supervisor. Employee is responsible for evaluating staff performance and making recommendations to a higher-level supervisor or the agency director on merit raises, appraisals, reassignments, and salary adjustments. Employees may interview applicants, usually in concert with higher level management. Requirements

  • Three years of experience as a caseworker or investigator in an income maintenance program.
  • Preferably one year of supervisory experience.
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience.
