About The Position

The Inclusion Pedagogist is a specialized educator embedded within licensed childcare programs to enhance inclusive practices and support the integration of children with special needs. This role collaborates with educators, supervisors, families, and Special Needs Resource partners to co-develop and implement inclusive strategies that foster equitable, responsive, and supportive learning environments. The position is under the supervision of the Early Years Manager.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related social services field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in early learning and childcare, with a focus on inclusion, special needs, or pedagogical leadership.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative staff team environment.
  • Ability to function effectively in high stress situations
  • Vulnerable Sector Check
  • First Aid Certification

Nice To Haves

  • Inuit descent preferred.
  • Fluency in Inuktitut an asset.
  • Knowledge of the needs of Inuit children and families.
  • Knowledge of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, culture, and practices.
  • Experience in coaching, mentoring, and adult learning strategies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of inclusive pedagogy, trauma-informed practice, and equity-based approaches.
  • Familiarity with “How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years (Ministry of Education, Ontario, 2014)”
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with the Canada-Wide Early Learning Child Care Program (CWELCC), the Child Care and Early Years Service System Plan – 2025 to 2029, and Ministry of Education guidelines are an asset.
  • Familiarity with community service programs and agencies
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to operate computer systems and relevant software.
  • Strong organizational, program planning, evaluation, fiscal management, and problem- solving skills.
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility, dedication, and commitment to children.

Responsibilities

  • Engages with children, and liaises with parents/guardians, staff, supervisors, visitors and community agencies/supports as needed.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to educators and supervisors on inclusive pedagogy, programming, environments, and culturally affirming practices.
  • Facilitate reflective practice sessions and team-based learning to build inclusive capacity.
  • Share evidence-based resources, tools, and promising practices with agency staff and the broader sector.
  • Support early identification and connection to community services for children with special needs.
  • Promote the enrollment and integration of children with special needs into childcare programs and support their transition to school.
  • Incorporate Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) principles into daily programming, ensuring that learning experiences reflect Inuit values, culture, and ways of knowing.
  • Foster a sense of belonging and identity for Inuit children and families within the program.
  • Guide educators in adapting curriculum, environments, and routines to meet the diverse needs of all children.
  • Integrate Head Start components, including education, health and wellness, culture and language, nutrition, and family engagement.
